you guys are not helping me with your horror stories!!!!! :p

and I am still a High School senior!!!!!!

thanks Alexandre for your input (even though it goes against everyone else's :p), I guess it makes me feel better

I think it is because there are a lot of premeds posting on this thread, venting their frustrations. Premeds are such whiners! ;)

Seriously, that's because premeds have to maintain a high GPA, take tough classes and still only have a 5%-10% chance of getting into a top medical school. Prelaw students can take easier classes and still have a better than 20% chance of getting into a top Law School. MBAs can graduate with a low 3.5 GPA and still get into a top 10 MBA program. Premeds do have a lot of stress, not so much because their chosen major is tough, but because getting into Medical school is very competitive.

To any premeds reading this, why are you choosing premed? I've considered it, but I can't get over the fact that my doctor's office is so boring. It seems like it would be exciting to research the different types of medicine and how the body works, though. Do all premeds go on to become doctors, or do some go on to become researchers? I just want to hear about some premed students' plans.

well either medical research or an ob/gyn in a hospital or a surgeron or maybe medical scientist training program.

I agree, doctor's offices are SOOOOOOOOOO boring! I work in one myself and & I almost didnt want to become a doctor because the work was so boring and monotonous. But...working in the hospital, i think, is much more exciting & challenging.

alexandre I agree with you. There are sooo many applying from michigan's udnergrad that those many students that dont get in think that michgian doesnt want their own...

Plenty of pre-meds go into research, either through MSTP/MD/PhD programs or they do research in addition to private/hospital practice.

And, the myth that UM medical school or any other medical school is biased against its own students is exactly that - a myth. If anything medical schools favor their own, or, at the very least, just treat them like any other applicant from any other school.
