Is it even worth applying to a school ED if you aren't sure of going there yourself? In my case, I am not sure if i want to apply to Boston University early decision since i live out of state and if i get into my state school, University of Washington, then i would rather go there than Boston University. I just want to apply to BU ED since my grades are on the lower end of their applicants and i just thought i'd give it a shot. Would it be worth it? Plus, at BU, the ED is binding so if i did get accepted, there is no way out of it.

If a school is not your first choice, why enter into a binding admission pathway?

Ultimately it’s your preference, no one else is more qualified to tell you whether it’s “worth it” or not.

On another thread you mention being low income. You can not apply ED to BU if you need financial aid. You are committing to go no matter what the cost when you apply ED and BU is not a school that meets financial need.

OP asks:

Since ED is binding, it is designed only for those students who are absolutely 100% sure that they want to got to ED University regardless of what else might (or might not) happen in the application season. So the short answer is NO.

Since you are NOT sure that you really want to go to BU, you most definitely should NOT apply ED to BU. Yes, applying ED to BU might give you an edge in getting admitted, but you yourself have stated that (1) your not sure you really want to go there and (2) that you need need-based FA. If you wound up being admitted ED to BU, then you are required to go there. That is, unless your family regards the FA package as making BU financially unaffordable, but you and your family would have to evaluate the BU FA package in isolation—with ED, you are NOT be allowed to wait until other colleges send you their offers of need-based FA in order to compare packages.

Do not apply.

I know of a girl who applied to Swarthmore ED because her mom wanted her to. She didn’t think that she would get in since her stats were on the lower end of the spectrum so it didn’t matter. She ended up getting in and was MISERABLE. Don’t apply to a school ED unless you are absolutely sure you will be happy attending there.

Thanks for letting me know, i didn’t know that!

Thanks to all of you guys. It’s probably best that i shouldn’t apply ED.
