Is it hard to get into accounting courses without the minor?

I'm interested in accounting at UCLA, but I don't want to take the extra econ and math courses needed to declare the minor.

Can you still take upper-level accounting courses in Anderson without the accounting minor? If so, is it tough to get in them?

This probably wasn’t the best time of the year to post this with the influx of topics coming from admitted students… :P

ba da bump

one last bump

It’s possible, yes (assuming you took the pre reqs for the upper level courses), but it will be very difficult to get into the class because there aren’t that many to begin with and priority enrollment is given to accounting minors (who are usually also biz econ majors). You’ll have to wait until 2nd pass to enroll, which by then the class is usually full. You likely then have to just sit in on a class and hope some people drop so you can land on the waitlist and eventually get admitted into the class.

And to take the upper division Management classes, you need to first take the lower division Management classes. For instance, Management 120A requires you to pass 1B.

I am in the minor so I get to enroll first pass, but I think I’ve only had the need to use it once. The classes don’t really fill that quickly; a lot of people wait until second pass to enroll. And the more popular instructors, specifically Litt (can’t say I understand the appeal), will often allow more students in above the enrollment cap. I believe it’s safe to say that there are much more valuable benefits to the accounting minor than being able to enroll in accounting classes first pass.

Hmmmmm I see. Thanks for the info, guys.
