I live in Texas, and I'm thinking about applying to UIUC's engineering school next year.

Would it my out of state status make it harder or easier to get in, or is geographical status not considered at all here?

In-state residency is not considered in admissions.

Really? I always thought OOSers were at a disadvantage...

Unlike most state universities, UIUC generally evaluates out-of-state applicants on the same basis as in-state.

Well that's cool

yeah, i'm an out-of-stater and i was an auto-admit, so i'm pretty sure that UIUC does not consider state residency.

What are the requirements for automatic admission?

i think someone said that you have to be in the top 2 percent of all applicants. but that only holds true for LAS. all other schools have manual reviews (especially business and engineering).

I know all of business has manual reviews, but not so for engineering. I applied for ECE and was *********ted, while a friend of mine applied to bioengineering (with great stats) and was manually rejected from BioE, but accepted into the engineering college.

that's interesting. my counselor told me that engineering was manually reviewed. but then again, my counselor is pretty dim so...

The university gets more money (tuition) from out of staters, and budgets are always tight, so you might have an advantage.

booboisie, ur friend got manually reviewed and rejected? so why are you say engineering aren't manually reviewed?
"I know all of business has manual reviews, but not so for engineering."

He's saying that all business applications are manually reviewed, while only some engineering applications are.

Well, I believe that U of I actually does put a little more consideration into in state students becasue UIUC is a state funded school. Illinois taxes help fund the school and I'm pretty sure that means they are somewhat obligated to put in staters at a higher consideration because their taxes help fund the school.
Just my opinion. Of course, UIUC would never admit to this.......
