Just wondering. I know some colleges have awards for college students with certain gpa's or apply to certain departmental awards/scholarships? Is it easier to be an incoming freshman to get money for college?

If you are talking about merit aid…scholarships based on your stats…in most cases Colleges award their best merit aid awards to incoming freshmen. They do this to encourage students to attend their college.

However, some colleges do have departmental scholarships for returning students. These tend to be given to very high achieving students within the department.

So…I’m not sure “easier” is the right term…those departmental scholarships for returning students are not available to incoming freshmen.

BUT my opinion here…I do think that the most generous merit awards are given to incoming freshmen who are at the top of the application pool at a specific college.
