Is it HYP or just HY?

And in order to maximize your chances of getting into the school of your dreams - or even the safety of your choice - you have to pay close attention to those "ridiculous numbers."

I have to disagree with you on this one, Byerly. I don't think that playing the "strategic" game is gonna make any difference whether or not you get in to HYP. My reasoning is this: if you're good enough to get into one, you're good enough to get into all three. If you have a perfect 4000, crazy ECs, and cured cancer- you don't need to "watch the numbers" to see what the ED and deferred RD acceptance rates are for each school, you're gonna get in wherever you apply. And quite frankly, I don't care HOW good you are, nobody is gonna convince me that this acceptance game doesn't involve any luck. There is no "shoe in" candidate- you may be accepted one year and rejected another...so don't give me that "playing the numbers so you can get in" crap. You apply where you think you'll be happy, and have a backup plan just in case things don't work out- end of story

Less true words were never spoken...Thanks. Visit me at HYP

I lose brain cells every time I read a post by mensa160....the stupidity of what emerges from mensa's fingertips has the same properties of a nuclear explosion...it radiates...quick, everyone- RUN FOR COVER!!!

Visit me at HYP

Well, which one can I visit you at? I'll go for the midpoint... welcome me to your residential college at Y.

Why do people have so much trouble understanding the NBER Revealed preference survey? The charge of bias is ludicrous. The comparisons to USNWR selectivity index are completely irrelevant. If you think that all it shows is the choices made by a bunch of high school students who know nothing and is therefore meaningless, fine. But I feel confident in saying that, from the institutional point of view, who wins the head to head choices by the very top students is of the highest importance. It's a measure of what they want, not what the applicants want. And the order is H,Y,S, M, C, P, B,C,A,D. Not in the least surprising. It has nothing to do with which is the best school for you, or even which is the best school.

The NBER report is, by definition, a biased and therefore tainted report (written by H employees). The report is used by no one but the few here who are upset about where the nat'l undergraduate ranking publications put their schools. Fortunately, the great majority of H.S. students and college counseling offices are focused on those nat'l ranking and college guide publications. (In an era when ED/EA/RD considerations have become huge, it is amazing how little attention the NBER report has gotten at those levels - What does that tell you?).

Why not try reading it?

"If you think that all it shows is the choices made by a bunch of high school students who know nothing and is therefore meaningless"

Exactly.

And drop this garbage about how acceptance rates somehow make a college better. Chicago has a higher acceptance rate than NYU. Columbia a lower acceptance rate than Stanford. And for decades before last year, Yale had a higher acceptance rate than H and P.

Fact is, Princeton is just as good as Harvard and Yale. Princeton offers the greatest undergraduate focus, fantastic programs and an engineering school far better than that of Harvard or Yale. It has always been HYP and I don't see why you would suddenly exclude Princeton.

And btw, noone outside of Harvard or Yale really gives a crap about "The Game."

That is an opinion, not a fact. The fact is that among those who get into pton and either H or Y, the majority choose HY Maybe they are all misguided; more palusibly, they know what they are doing, and that these choices, in the aggregate, reflects overall quality.

I think we should let this thread die.

I agree. After 10 posts in this thread, you've run out of material!

Maybe if you spelled material correctly (the first time), they wouldn't have rejected you from harvard and yale law schools.
(quick edit old man)

Why attack me? What is the point - did I say something that offended you in that statement? Is there nothing better for you to do at your retirement home? Don't you have some bingo to play or some applesauce to eat? I was making a nice gesture to stop the unnecessay princeton bashing, but you have to go on because you are a schizophrenic perseverating babbling fool in a diaper. For our sake, please increase the dose of haldol and resist those voices in your head when you think you need to unleash your deep rooted insecurities about harvard on us.

I wish the nurse would take away your computer rights.

Ouch, mighty Byerly in all his uppityness, was rejected at YLS and even HLS? Harvard stopped loving him and Yale never did, but still he flies the H banner without regard for the last college he attended. He's a Harvard man in his eyes anyway, far superior to those Yalies who rejected his aspirations.

LOL!

You are both very agitated and aggressive trolls, juiced up and formidable pass rushers ( with your thesauruses at the ready! ) En garde!!!

The Eagles could use you both on Sunday, and I fear they may need you!

If someome is interested in student attitudes and preferences, I suggest they
review the P R O W L E R College Guide, which details students impressions of each of the schools discussed here. Further, they don't have to worry about bias and connections to certain admissions office personnel (the guide is written by students for students).
The Guide, including its various rankings and student impressions, can be reviewed, in part, at its web site.

This thread was foolish from the start and does need to die.

thesaurus? more like medical school,
And I was more enamored by your original volte face - "bright and feasome"
before the edit

It is HYP, not HY. Or better yet its CHOY (LMBC!!!!)

Hostile!

When you can't deal with the facts, then personally attack the other guy, right? That seems to be your M.O.

"You are a schizophrenic perseverating babbling fool in a diaper!" screeches the Yale grad!

I'm sorry, are you hallucinating again? There was no attack at all in my previous post. Isn't it bed time for you soon? (just in case you needed an example -this IS an attack - they might have taught you what an attack is, if you went to Harvard or Yale Law school, both fine institutions. The Harvard Law Library is particulary impressive, don't you agree?)

I have a hard time believing that someone could seriously make posts like #152 and #158...that was a bit over-the-top (to put it lightly), crimson. Way past the cute/funny/amusing point.

I'd have to agree.I assume its the "bulldog" part growling!
