Is it ideal to join the National Guard to pay for college?

Well the title of the thread asks the question. I'm seriously considering on joining the National Guard to get my college tuition paid (freshman year). Or maybe army at that. My parents have refused to pay for my college tuition if I don't make it into a Physical Therapy program at whatever college I applied to. I've been waitlisted on Marquette's program.

Please help...maybe pro and con it?

Well, do you REALLY WANT to join the National Guard or the army? If not, you should try to find another way.

i'm a little neutral on it...i'd do it if i really have to.

bump...
help please?

Do you want to go to Iraq and get shot at? Are you ok with the fact that you might not ever make it to college and that the sum of your life could be giving it for the Iraq conflict?

Some would be ok with that and some wouldn't. Think about it in real - today - terms and make your decision carefully.

If you want to join the armed services, try the Navy or Air Force. That way you won't be mired down in Iraq.

bijoux - see poster joev's thread in the parent's cafe about the Air National Guard paying for college.

Hmm.that one weekend a month can turn into more in certain circumstances. There is an adult professional in my town who has been called to duty for months at a stretch, causing him financial loss, etc. because of his committment to the National Guard. If you don't feel called to military service and would only be doing it for the money, I would rethink this idea.
