Is it impossible to transfer if

I have a 3.2 GPA? The school I am at right now is kind of notorious for grade deflation. I go to William and Mary.

Have you looked at the median ranges of accepted transfer GPA’s and other associated information, if they publish that? Or you could always call the transfer admissions office to get some advice.

Not impossible. Just need your vitals: Height, weight, avg. yards per carry & 40 yard dash time.

OP: Although not impossible, it is highly unlikely.

Give that you were denied at ND as a freshman and your performance at William and Mary is not impressive your transfer success is very unlikely.

That is below the desired transfer gpa. I heard they want to see a 3.7 from any unaffiliated schools. The gpa is slightly lower for schools with dual degree programs with ND (mostly engineering).

@leftyhelen did you apply to transfer? Just wondering how it all turned out.

BUMP! Ok, so at the end of freshman year I kept my nose to the grindstone. I have a 3.5 now. How are my chances for trying next year?

As someone earlier said, successful transfer applicants typically have a college GPA of 3.7 or higher. In terms of number of applicants, they see 800 applicants for 100-150 openings. I don’t know the percentage of applicants offered transfer admission who enroll, but I suspect it is very high, which means the transfer acceptance rate is as low if not lower than regular undergraduate admission. Another thing to consider is how closely your freshman classes at W&M mirrored ND’s FYS requirements. If you are severely lacking in required classes, that will impact your ability to graduate in 4 years, and will most likely have an adverse impact on your application.

I took all the required classes (stats and calc, two sciences, all the other stuff.)

I just try to think that 3.7 is what they call “typical” so I’m guessing it’s about their average, so they maybe have 25% above and below. I hope that because W&M is known as more rigorous than HC or SM, where I’ve been told a lot of applications come from, that would help my odds.

I know it’s a bit of a pipe dream, but I really have worked my hardest this year, figure why not try… I’ve loved ND my whole life, and if it doesn’t work out for undergrad transfer at least I can keep trying to work hard for grad school.

If anyone is up at ND soon, please say a prayer at the grotto for me!

lefty, have you made sure your admissions counselor knows how much you love ND?you can’t show them enough!

The website says they typically look for a 3.7 for successful transfer students. Outside of your coursework is there some achievement you can point to that will help your application to stand out? Give it a try, make sure they know how much you want to attend ND, but I wouldn’t count on it working out. https://admissions.nd.edu/information-for/transfer-students/transfer-faq/
