Is it just me or are you all excited to leave high school (and why)

Hey everyone,
I know some people like school, but I’m itching to get out (luckily I’m a senior). I feel like I’m wishing my days away and can’t wait to get to college. What do you guys absolutely hate about high school? Maybe hearing others’ school issues will make me feel better

I am in the exact same position as you!! Hmm that’s a good question…I think it would have to be the lack of diversity and clique-y culture that my school emphasizes. My high school has always been very strong in football, and really is just a powerhouse for athletics in general, and I am SO NOT ATHLETIC. The only thing the guys ever talk about is the next game, and the only thing the girls ever talk about is how “I’m going to wear so-and-so’s jersey tonight.”
I have like two friends who take studying seriously. The rest just blow it off. It’s been very tough to find friends simply because I’m not into what everyone else is into here lol. Luckily, there’s only about 8 months left and then we’ll be free!!
What about you OP?

I always hated the clique-ish culture, drama, gossip, etc that goes in high school. Plus, I really hate the semi-rural area that I live in. I make the most of high school that I can, but I’m always looking forward to graduation.

I wish more people liked math :frowning:

on the other hand, most who do are keepers

I wished there was a math club

so I made a math club

if you’re lucky enough to find good people and fun things, high school is at least bearable (if you ask me)

I hate my school’s administration. I hate how they treat us like children and yet expect us to make adult decisions about the rest of our lives.

I don’t hate most of the people at my high school. I just find it difficult to make friends with them because a lot of them care about things I don’t at all (football, parties…). Overall though, it hasn’t been that bad but anyone who really enjoys HS has probably peaked…and that means that they’re just going downhill from now.

That sucks, everyone. I’m already feeling like I’m not alone in this high school abyss! I hate cliques and loud screaming and fakers…I’m an introvert. My grade has matured by now, so everyone’s pretty nice, which makes it easier to handle. At this point, I’m tired of taking classes that I don’t want to take and not having the opportunity to take the classes I do want to take. I dislike the lack of independence.
@SugarSmarts That’s really annoying. My school doesn’t have organized sports, but we have gym class and I can’t stand games that involve ball, except basketball. You know how sports people are all into the teamwork? Well, that’s what I don’t like about sports
@noplayallwork Good for you that you’re making the most of high school! I’m trying, but…
I actually live an hour north of NYC and wouldn’t mind going to college in the middle of nowhere. Are you only looking into colleges in urban areas?
@OMPursuit Did you get people in your math club? Great thing to put on college apps, by the way.

I don’t want to wish away my high school years. I hope college is better - if it’s not I will be quite disappointed. Where do you all want to go?

@MissSuzyQ lol, that’s the attitude!

I want to leave my high school, my house, my town, my state and don’t really ever want to move back… Clearly I’m not very fond of the past few years hah

For me, it’s that I’m just more excited to start college than I am to leave high school. There are a lot of things that I actually really like about my high school (despite not having a lot in common with people, we can still get along because everyone is really friendly, there is a good group of college-bound students I can connect with, people care more about the “fun” aspect of games than actually winning them because our team sucks, etc.), but I can’t wait for the faster/higher-level classes of university. I feel like next year I’ll be able to start doing a lot more.

@greenteen17 I’ll make sure to let you know after our first meeting!
That’ll be this week!

It’s got me all excited

@Futuremed17 wow, that’s intense! I hope college is the exact opposite
@Dax123 I hereby commend you for your exemplary good attitude (I’m feeling formal ;))

@OMPursuit Cool. My friend and I are trying to start an AP Calculus class, but so far we’re the only ones that are interested. I don’t love math, but last year I had an awesome Algebra II/Trig teacher that made me enjoy math. I know that deep down I like math but years of bad teachers squashed my interest (at least, that’s my theory…)

To be quite honest, I hate the image I’ve made of myself. I’ve changed A LOT from freshman year and am much more social…but a lot of people still think of me as my much-more-anti-social freshman self.

Other than that (aka my distinct lack of social life outside of school), I’m pretty content at high school. I’m just really looking forward to college.

@Faultystart I’m with you in the social situation. Last year, my school had a weekend and at first I didn’t want to go, but people convinced me to. I ended up having a great time and acting wild. Everyone was so surprised - “I didn’t know you’re so funny” etc. I’m an introvert, but I’m not antisocial and I like acting funny/weird sometimes, but I can’t because of this quiet person image I have :frowning:

I am SO excited to start college. The thing is, I don’t mind my high school that much–the teachers are great, classes are easy/fun so far, and the people I talk to are nice. The only thing that gets to me is the extreme cliquish-ness that pervades my grade and all the others. I sometimes feel like everybody’s friends with everyone else and I’m on the outside  It’s not the most fun for someone introverted and socially anxious, but it doesn’t bother me too much. I think I’m only noticing it now because I know that this is the last year to deal with it.

I’ve lived in the same place my entire life, and though I love it, I can’t wait to go out and explore the rest of the world and meet new people! LOL i’m sure that once college starts though, my opinion might change!

@greenteen17 Yeah I try to make the most, but sometimes I feel like I’m in hell. I really am sick of the same people I’ve been around for the longest time who I am not even that close with, and making new friends is nearly impossible thanks to the clique-ish culture.

To answer your question, I am looking for colleges in urban areas or among the outskirts of an urban city. I just find that it’s very boring and empty in the semi-rural area I live in, with almost nothing to do.

No reason to tear others down just to feel better about yourself.

@bodangles Sorry if you found my comment rude. It was meant as a joke. It’s more of a quip against the stereotypical quote (that no one ever really says anymore) that HS is the four best years of your life. This is not true for the majority of people, and if it is, then by definition they have peaked… But really, I haven’t met anyone who enjoys/has enjoyed high school as a whole (relative to other times in their lives), so I was not trying to tear anyone down…

Relative to college, which has been among the worst years of my life, high school was awesome.

People have different experiences, that’s all. And it doesn’t make them better or worse, just different.

@thecolourist I’m trying to develop your attitude :-*
