WOAH O_O I couldn’t believe my eyes so I had to check for myself. It’s TRUE holy **** and I thought macbook pros were bad. With the most expensive options, a Mac Pro costs over $23,000. WHAT THE ****?

I do like the design and battery life of Macs. My laptop can get maybe 2 hours without being plugged in before it dies. Not too bad though, the rare occasions I study in a group in a study lounge there’s plenty of outlets around. And I enjoy the 1080p 17" screen with a i7, 6 GB of RAM, 330M (not sure how laptop graphic cards compare, really) and it can play games I like such as Fallout 3 and Battlefield BC2 on high settings that a Mac isn’t even capable of playing.

I agree with a bunch of you guys! Why so much HATE? Hate is such a strong word/emotion. Some people use PC’s and some use Macs. Some people drive Toyota’s (equivalent to Dell, HP) and some people drive BMW’s(Apple, Sony). Some drive Mustangs (Alienware). We have a diverse culture. Woot! hugs

Anyway, about what % of people use Mac’s on your campus? What % use PC?

Personally I like MB’s. I’ve used Apple computers at my k-8 school and in high school. Used PC’s at home, but felt more comfortable with a Mac. I bought my own MB in 2008 and don’t regret my purchase at all. I only had one problem w my MB and it was my fault, they corrected MY mistake by upgrading my HD for free.
It runs fast and does its job. I prefer macs OS over windows.
It’s a matter of what the individual can afford and what specs he or she wants on their computer.
Yes some do get MB’s bc they look nice or bc everyone else has one but that’s a lame reason to shell out the cash for one.
But yeah don’t judge us Apple lovers, lol we’re not all snobby computer users.

I am a Mac user. I know the technical “ins and outs” of my Macbook and am preparing to buy a Macbook Pro for college next year.

Here’s my question to those who are complaining:

In what way does someone buying a mac for face value affect you? If daddy’s little girl wants one because it’s cool, why does that adversely affect your life? I don’t understand why it matters to other people. If she’s wasting $1000, then that’s her business. That’s her money to waste for an image. Is there some sort of satisfaction in *****ing about it? It seems to me that ya’ll only get more worked up about it the more you discuss it.

You people are absolutely ridiculous!
You wear PC and Windows like its a badge of honor!

Probably one of the most under-recognized features of a macbook is Magsafe, it’s brilliant!
I wish Apple would license the technology to other companies.
Don’t tell me Dell and HP aren’t shooting themselves in the foot now because Apple has the patent.

When it comes to the operating systems, what has windows ever done for you??
Gave you a calculator and paint???
Seriously, what a joke.

Macs have a whole bunch of disadvantages for power users, it’s true.
I am not looking forward to giving up my dual display custom built PC, come this Fall.

Truth is, most people aren’t power users.
Just like most people don’t race cars, therefore only need a Ford Focus or Toyota Yaris to get around.
Most people aren’t audiophiles, therefore cheap earbuds work just fine for them.

Stop acting like having a computer worthy of a power user is the only thing that matters in the world, it is making you all look stupid.

There are plenty of brilliant people in the world who don’t know a damn thing about how to use a computer.
And in the case that they do need a computer, What in the hell is wrong with Apple trying to give them a more user-friendly experience?

That’s not apple’s business model.

True, but if you’re going to extend the analogy to prices, Macs certainly wouldn’t be the Toyota or the cheap earbuds.

This is what people object to - if you’re not a power user, why spend money as though you are?

It’s like those saying:
“I will buy anything that is shiny and made by Apple.”

To reply to the premise of this thread, on most college campuses it’s Apple by an enormous margin. Where I attend, I’d speculate an 85-15 Apple majority.

IMO, Microsoft is for work. Apple is for play. I find it very difficult to be productive on a Mac. Word is much more difficult to use on a Mac, for example. Honestly, I don’t get it! Could a Mac-owner at college enlighten me?

“Apple is for play”
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL
which is why games are made for it, right

Even more evidence that gullible consumers are being duped into buying shiny, unproductive over-priced Apple laptops:

I recently purchased the 15" MBP (~2.2k) and after 16 years of using a PC, I can honestly say, that this was the best decision of my life, thus far. Everything seems to be faster. Turning on the computer doesn’t take a million years. Everything is just more user-friendly and fitting to my needs.

I also recently got a new PC after 17 years of using PC’s. Everything seems to be faster. Turning on the computer doesn’t take a million years. Everything is just more user-friendly and fitting to my needs.

Isn’t it shocking that new computers are better than old computers?

^It’s not very shocking, technology grows at an exponential rate. Not exactly, but it is growing in a way that future products that are released year after year are often better than the product’s predecessor.

^He was being sarcastic.

And actually ThisCouldbeHeavn, I wasn’t comparing to an older computer. My brother got a new PC the same time I got a my new MBP and even with similar specs, his computer can not even begin to compare to mine, in regards to the same reasons previously mentioned.

Still more evidence that gullible consumers are being duped by Apple marketing hype that shiny, unproductive and overpriced Apple computers are more reliable and trustworthy:

Are you serious??? I use Office 2011 on my Mac and it’s seriously the best version I’ve ever used. Everything on Word is so accessible and easy to use. I can’t rave about it enough.

ALF, if people had that primarily in their mind, wouldn’t we see much more Asus computers than HPs and Dells?

Or at the very least, Asus would probably have a bigger market share than it does currently.

My input may be completely irrelevant but I switched to a Mac this year from a PC. I personally find it very easy to use and think that the trackpad hands down beats any PC. I am able to switch between many programs while working VERY easily.
