I'm taking an o-chem lab right now. All we do is basically prepare some solution, calculate % yield, obtain IR spectrum, get other data and do analysis and error discussion. IMO, really stupid.

I personally don't mind it. I'm just wondering if there will be any bad implications on my transcript, when I apply to grad school, that I didn't take o-chem 2 lab, even though it wasn't required.

What’s your major? I mean, it really depends. You’re pretty far into Chemistry, you must need it for your major right?

Labs are optional for you??? jealous

I hate labs…I can’t decide which is worse. Titrations or counting fruit flies…

Oh the things I could do with an extra six hours each week…more time to spend on here lol.

Labs aren’t optional for you? o.o

I mean, they’re optional even if they really AREN’T, as per determined by the major. For me, I mean.

I’m a chemical engineering major. I’m thinking about switching to materials science/engineering or chemistry or something else. idk

My o-chem lab is optional. I’m talking o-chem 2 next semester.

if a lab is optional, that generally means the lab is optional. Talk to a counseller about the specific requirements for your major.

Anything that is optional is always required and necessary.

So you hate your ochem lab… yet you’re thinking of majoring in chemistry?
You may want to rethink this…

If I do switch, it will probably be into materials engineering.

My o chem is listed as highly recommended, but still optional. I just don’t see how it helps with the class because it’s the same things over and over. It does provide hands on experience, but so does a job as lab assistant.

YEP!!
Now and for the rest of your life! When your boss says “who’s able to work this weekend?” or your SO says “I’d like to do ______ for my birthday” or…

^ unless you plan on getting a masters. then it’s not necessary.

several people have pointed out that if it’s optional it isn’t necessary, regardless of how much they recommend it.
if it was required, it would have been mandated.

^ Everytime I see your name, I think you’re implying that you want b***hole.
it-ah-make-a-me-laugh!

interesting
i should prob make a new account anyway since i no longer want to go to brown
i want to go to columbia or rutgers now!
“wantsrutgers”
it just doesn’t have the same ring to it…
but on the brightside nobody would think i want butthole.
