Is it normal to feel sad sometimes but not necessarily "homesick?"

My mom and grandma came to visit me this weekend for parents and families weekend. We had a great time, but when they were getting ready to leave and started packing up, I felt sad and was a little weepy. I love my school and have found my niche in the nine weeks I’ve been here and do not really feel homesick, but I still feel sad when we share those good-bye hugs. It’s not like I won’t see them forever; I’ll see them in a few weeks during fall break, but I still get teary-eyed whenever we have to say good-bye. Is this normal? I don’t want to feel like this every time we have to say good-bye to each other. I just can’t help myself sometimes, LOL.

Yes, normal.

Perfectly normal, and hope that it never stops hurting when you say goodbye to your family. It means that you are loved and that you love and miss these people.

Coming from a college guy who just got through crying for that very reason, feeling sad and a little homesick, I would say yes, it is normal.

Agree, it is totally normal. Don’t worry – it sounds like you are doing great!!

Very normal.

Not only are you normal, you are also very lucky to have deep attachments and the emotional capacity to feel them. Consider for a moment the alternative. …
