Hello,

I'm a Junior this fall. I am currently studying in an international school in Shanghai, China. This fall, we have 7 courses and i am taking four APs: Statistic, World History, Macro Economics and AP Chemistry. The rest of them (Chinese, Physics, English) are all in Honors.
I did wanted to attend AP Lang but the school turned me down (Sophomore's midterms and finals should be above 85, I'm 83). Despite the fact I was turndown due to my score, I had most 85s in English before.

So would that be a problem for my future if I don't take AP english language? Is it possible to self study English Language myself and take the test? Is it necessary?

I am looking for top public universities in the states, like UCLA, UNC- Chapel Hill etc.
I had a GPA of 3.9 (out of 4.3) in my Sophomore year. A 108 on my TOEFL. (Reading 29, Listening 27, Speaking 24, Writing 28)

It’s not ideal, but one course probably won’t keep you from a school that you’d normally get into. It’s not necessary to self study, but it may help you if you submit the scores (and do well).

Will that matter to college if you take AP language test but not take the class in school?

That’s the big issue here, but I might get a 4.3 (out of 4.5) while I needed to spend more time and effort in AP Language just to get a 4.1. I am planning to major in economics or History (or both) and took some other minors such as Pharmaceutical and Business.

Writing is important for just about all majors, but it’ll be fine as long as you’re taking hard classes otherwise (maybe take a writing course at a local state uni or CC

It’s so easy to self-study for the AP Lit exam. My school doesn’t offer the AP Lit class, but I wanted to take the test anyway; I studied the important vocab words (~30 from quizlet) the night before–that was it–and I got a 5. You’ll be fine, trust me :)

I tried to major in Economics or History in college, is taking AP Lang necessary for these my potential majors.

APs aren’t necessary for any major.
