Is it okay to omit info on the Common App?

My father is a criminal, and even though he went to my dream college, I think I'm going to omit his existence rather than risk listing an anti-legacy of sorts. Google searching just his name reveals several articles about his crime, (and his age as well, so the college would know it's the right guy).

Is it alright to omit him? Should I keep him anyway? I haven't had contact with him since I was six, please help!!!

I’m sure it’s fine if you omit that info. It’s not like you’re lying and saying you had someone who went to the college but actually didn’t.

It’s fine, but there’s no way such information could be used against you in the admissions process.

I did the same thing with my brother. I really didn’t want his name to be tied with mine.
