I am a Junior in high school, and I am a straight A student with a 4.0 grade point average. I am currently enrolled in two AP classes, and plan to take two more during my Senior year. I took the SAT for the first time on May 5 and scored a 1950 (670 Critical Reading, 620 Math, 660 Writing). My ACT composite score is a 28. I am satisfied with these scores because I'm not trying to get into any Ivy League schools. I would like to go to a state university and study nursing. My scores are high enough for the colleges that I would like to apply to; however, my guidance counselors say that colleges will want to see that I took the SAT twice. I don't want to take it again (but who does?). I'm not sure if I could gain a significant amount of points. Is this a good score? And do I really need to take it again?

The reason I’d consider taking it again is for merit scholarships at schools you are looking at, unless a 1950 is above the 75th %ile. Many of these scholarships use test scores for consideration.

^ I agree. Did you do some practice test and know your practice score? It only make sense to retake if you are determined to get a better score. That means you will do some preparation. Getting higher score not only give you merit aid opportunity, you may have more choices of schools too. If yo don’t care about aid, and you don’t have time to prepare for the retake, then just go with what you have already.
