Is it possible to appeal the BBVA scholars decision?

Hi,

A little over a month ago, I was accepted to SMU with a 22.5k per year scholarship and accepted in the direct to business program at Cox. I’m very happy to receive these honors, and I am seriously considering SMU because of them. However, without the extra 7.5k from being a BBVA scholar, SMU is slightly outside of my price range, especially compared to TCU which is currently about 12k less per year.
I applied EA with a 3.5UW/3.9W GPA with a rigorous schedule at a college prep high school, as well as a 33 on the ACT
This past semester I had my strongest semester and got a 3.7UW/4.3W GPA with 3 AP classes and 1 IB class

Because I applied EA, the admissions did not see my first semester grades. If I sent them my transcripts and an email explaining my appeal, do you think that the admissions office would reconsider me for the BBVA scholars program?

Thank you!

Call your admissions rep and tell them the exact situation—TCU is a head to head competitor with SMU for top students like you. Maybe SMU can shake loose some more money to meet TCU’s offer. They have sent out all the RD decisions now so maybe there is some extra $$ left from people that have already declined.

I was able to get more money out of SMU from the engineering school. I received a 9k/year scholarship from the engineering school on acceptance day with 22.5k from the university.

After speaking with the dean of engineering, I was able to get an extra 5k/year totaling 36.5k/year in merit aid.

Not sure if the business school is as giving money, especially being one of their highest ranked schools.
