Is it possible to change my application from ED2 to RD?

I already posted this question on the specific college i applied to, so im just gonna copy and paste. I want to see more responses from ppl at cc.

Hi,

Recently my family has went under some financial turmoil that really made it hard for them to support a 4 years education in GWU. I had already submitted the early decision package before all of this have happened. I have to say i really look forward to an education in DC and GWU, but the financial reality have forbid to bind myself to such school, when especially I’m an international student and usually gave out limited financial aid.

I already emailed to school to discuss a possibility for such to occur and I want to hear all your thoughts on cc

Usually it is not problem, I just don’t know if there is a timing issue, I suspect it will be fine.

Yes, you can change before decisons are released. Contact (email) GWU and tell it you want your ED2 application changed to one for regular admission.

Does it matters if all of my materials have been received and the application status is under reviewed? I really don’t want to get into a situation where I am forced to go to a school I can’t afford or breaking the ED agreement thereby put on a blacklist for all college admission offices.

You wouldn’t be put on a blacklist. They won’t share that info. If I were you, I wouldn’t change it yet. You could always work with the FA office after the fact and if you simply can’t afford it, you can break the agreement. GWU also offers merit scholarships. I wouldn’t do something preemptive like that

@CaliCash I hope dats the case, but I can not afford something like that to happen. Though GWU does offer heavy merit scholarships, my stats and being an International doesn’t really qualify for such ever to happen

Hmmm… I didn’t know that you are international. But you can still negotiate for aid.

@CaliCash I already sent GWU email requesting to change my status, I really don’t know what they say but I hope they can grant my request.

Well I don’t think you should panic. What if they have already read your app and admitted you and are planning to give you $50,000 per year? What would you do then? Well, I’m pretty sure you would be flying yourself to GWU lol
