Upon special request, does Rice Registrar Office allow its students to send Rice transcripts with percentage grades - as opposed to letter grades - to certain graduate & professional schools?

Help is much appreciated.

I am not sure, but I don’t think that is possible. Some courses don’t even give out % grades. I have one class this semester where the rubric has no numbers, only letter grades. Why would this be a problem though? I have never heard it being necessary.

GPA conversion is critical when it comes to applying to Canadian medical schools. Canadian medical schools treat any percentage grade of 90% or better as a 4.0

Whereas in a lot of courses at Rice, you need a 93%+ to earn a 4.0 (A), so submitting letter grades assigned by Rice can be disadvantageous as a hard-earned A- (by scoring 91% for example) in a Rice course simply gets treated as a 3.7 in the eyes of Canadian med school adcoms

Do you get the drift?

I see. Interesting. In that case, I believe that they will still take it into consideration. I doubt they will just clip all of the grades Rice gives you. They do have ways to translate grades I believe when going between systems. If you have concerns, I would contact the office of the registrar tomorrow by phone [Contact Us | Office of the Registrar | Rice University](http://registrar.rice.edu/content.aspx?id=208) . Just out of curiosity, are you already enrolled at Rice or are you deciding between it and other schools at the moment?

I am a family member of a Rice student.

Thanks for your help!

No problem. If you find out please post what they said here so that others can hear about these things too.
