What are my chances at Rice University? (From a Canadian student).

Hello. I'm a grade 11 student from Canada and I'm thinking about applying to Rice University next year. I would like to fulfill my undergraduate education there, but I would need financial aid. I have a few questions.

-Can anyone please give me an idea of how I would compare to the other applicants, and estimate my chance of acceptance?
-Are there any other American universities that you think I would have a good chance of getting into?
-And maybe you can even give me some advice? Like, what can I do to improve my application?

I would really appreciate all your responses! Please be honest. Thank you very much.

Below are my some of descriptions so far for this year:

SAT Reasoning Test: To be taken in May 2009
SAT Subject Tests: I haven't registered for the subject tests yet, but I'm planning to take them next year.

GPA (out of 4.0): My school in Canada does not use GPA. Only percentages are used. I took 10 classes (5 per semester) in grade 10 and my overall average for that year was 95.8%. This year in grade 11, I'm also taking 10 classes (5 per semester). So far, my overall average that appeared on my mid-term for the first five classes in grade 11 was 97.6%.

Rank: My school does not rank its students, unfortunately.

AP/IB: I come from a very small town and my high school there does not offer any advanced courses. I can only take regular courses and so far, I've done that. I consider the courses that I have taken to be quite demanding compared to the other courses that are offered at my school. These courses include math, physics, chemistry...

Major Awards: None.

Extracurriculars:
-Mentorship Program (Grade 10-current, 1 hr/week) I mentor elementary school students from grades one to four in their after-school program.
-Students’ Representative Council (Grade 11-current)
-Reach For The Top (Grade 11-current) In Reach For The Top, I compete with other students in trivia.
-Debate/Public Speaking (Grade 9-10) My school does not offer debate this year because other students were not interested.
-Human Rights Club (Grade 10) Again, my school does have a human rights club this year due to the lack of interest.
-Lifesaving Society (Grade 9-10) I have learned fitness skills, water rescue, and first aid training in the Lifesaving Society. I completed all my courses, so I don't take it anymore.

Job/Work Experience:
-Babysitting young children ages 2-6 (Grade 9-10)

Volunteer/Community service:
-Volunteering at the Nursing Home (Grade 9-current, 1 hr/week)
-Volunteering at the Hospital’s Gift Shop (Grade 9-current, 2 hrs/week)

Personal/Summer Activities: In my spare time and over the school and summer break, I like to work on physics and math problems from my textbooks to review what I have already learned, as well as to practice and enhance my skills in these subjects.
This summer, I'm planning to attend a science program in Massachusetts. I already applied to the program, but I don't know whether I'll be accepted until early April of next year.

Country: Rural area in Canada
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian (Vietnamese)
Gender: Female

That's all I have for now. If you have any questions about me, please feel free to ask. I look forward to see what everyone has to say.

^Good start, but you should have anticipated the cold shoulder. Seriously, numbers matter, especially in more conservative areas and at universities. Come back when you have yours. Until then, keep up what I assume is the good work-it's hard to tell due to the lack of numerical data.

What do you mean by numbers?

colinization: Are you a student at Rice University, or administration personel?

Rice is really good for financial aid. Try to do well on the standardized tests, but don't have any qualms about being Canadian and coming to Rice. Our football team has around 5 Canadians just by themselves.

Are Canadian applicants more favoured for intl finaid or are we evaluated in the same way as any other intl applicant?
