I’m a student who tries to transfer to Berkeley or UCLA. Actually I’m studying the computer science, but on the way of that major I think I can finish all the requirements for economics major. For many reasons, I’d better transfer ASAP rather than spending few more years studying computer science. In addition, GPA is 4.0 so far. Also, CA residence. Do you think I can give it a shot, and even though I get rejected, can I try to apply for those schools with different major later??? Thx
As long as you have the time and money, you can apply 10,000 times. They don’t look at past apps.
Make sure you are using assist.org to get your classes done. Also, make sure you have a back up school, since UCB and UCLA are very competitive schools. I’d TAG somewhere to be safe.
EDIT: After seeing the response from @spencyboi, I need to update. UCs look at past apps, but you should have no problems applying with a different major. Just don’t lie in your app since they will catch you!
@luckie1367 Thank you so much yeah… it is competitive. Trying another major is kind of backing up for me.
@luckie1367 They actually do look at past transfer applications now. It is unlikely that they’ll look at past freshmen applications, but UCs have actually stated this year that they’ll also look at your past transfer applications.
@spencyboi , How do you know?
I’ve seen it from a presentation and MsSun has also wrote it down here:

I believe the main point is to check for discrepancies, but they will look at your past transfer applications.
Hmmm… interesting. Thank you for that.
I wonder if it is for discrepancies only, or if they look for other things.
OP, I take back my first response. However, you should still be fine to reapply with a different major. Just don’t lie about ECs or anything else since they will see your old app.
They definitely look at past applications. I have seen the screenshots of what they see and the list is in the application, with all the other times you applied, with links to open. However, the preso I saw said they only look to make sure things match (read lying). Now could someone read your previous essay? Sure, a person will have access to the whole thing, but I doubt they would and even if they did, they won’t care, unless there is something misrepresented from one app to the next.
The only thing I am not sure about is whether they have access to freshman app (should you be applying as a transfer). I would think they would have access to all, but I do not know.
Also, regents has full access as well.
