I received my transcript yesterday, and I was surprised to find that I'm ranked 19/500. I took an extra standards class online last year, so it weighed my GPA down by a lot.

I started my sophomore year a week ago, and I hope to raise my class rank by at least 5 places. I understand that it's very difficult to raise ones class rank, but is it possible? Please give me some advice?!

Thank you!

It’s absolutely possible. My family isn’t very academically oriented so I got stuck at 30/400 after freshman year. Now that I found some self-motivation, I’m 3/416 and have a shot at the salutatorian spot. So yeah, you can definitely raise your rank, perhaps even to valedictorian if you get perfect grades.

You need a combination of both AP classes and As. Honestly you’re fine where you are, top 5% in a class of 500 is something to be proud of. Don’t stress out about class rank too much, you should focus on all the other parts of your application like ECs and whatnot.

Get straight As, and you should go up.

It’s possible if you somehow perform better than the people ranked above you. Your class rank is fine, though.

Yeah it’s possible, first Semester of Freshman year I got really sick and was out of school for like a month. Didn’t fail any classes or even get any C’s, but had a GPA of 3.33. My class rank after the first Semester was like 130 out of 430. In my 2nd Semester of Freshman year I got a 4.00, and a 4.17 both Semesters of Sophomore year. My overall GPA is 3.92 and my class rank is 52 out of 414. It will continue to go up if I am consistently getting over 4.0 GPA’s, I’m thinking when it’s all said and done, my class rank should be around 25-35 by the time I graduate.

Thanks guys! I’m applying for a boarding school this year, so I was worried that being placed 19th will put me at a disadvantage. I’m glad that there are ways to raise my class rank. >:D<

@RHSclassof16 My highschool’s also called RHS…It would be funny if we’re from the same school…
