Is it possible to transfer credits BACK to your original university (after transfer)?

Hello all and thank you for reading my post.

I go to a very large state school and am just barely a Junior. I want to transfer to a private school out of state this spring. I'm going to do it, and then come back in May, to my current city where my current university is at, to finish out my apartment lease. I'm planning to just not register for classes at my current university this Spring (not paying anything), as if I had just decided to "take the semester off," without them knowing I transferred. After I finish the semester at the new school, if I decide I don't like it, I can then transfer those 15 credits earned Spring 2014 back to this university i, **and resume with the Fall 2014 term, correct?* Both are similarly priced; I just want to use this plan to fall back on in case I don't like the transfer.

Advice please? Thank you!!

You need to have a chat with the Registrar’s Office, and find out if this is possible creditwise.

It is not advisable to take an unofficial leave in order to pursue coursework at a different academic institution. You would be better off to make the arrangements in advance, and treat this as a guest semester at the second U.

If I tell them, it will lessen my chances even more.

Where did you go? They probably have a readmission form, so chances are your fall back plan would work.

“If I tell them, it will lessen my chances even more.”

Chances of what?

Of being admitted to #2?

Of having your credits accepted at #1 if you decide to return?

As marty212 has posted, most colleges/universities do have relatively simple readmission applications. Go discuss this with your advisor. Find out the steps to transfer out, and transfer back in if you would decide to do that later.

If you expect to pay for anything at #2 with financial aid money (including a student loan), you will need to sort that out with the financial aid offices as well.

Could make a random email account and ask your question…

readmission form… good advice everybody

“Students who wish to return to the university after enrolling at another institution are considered transfer applicants and are reviewed for admission based on the transfer admission guidelines related to good standing and cumulative GPA”
