Is it possible

I am a Junior in highschool (almost a senior) rom Washington State by Seattle. I took the SAt’s and i scored a 560 in math and a really low score in reading. I am now getting tutoring help and am working really hard to get my reading SAT up. My GPA right now is unfortunately not the best with a 3.28 but I am taking hard classes, such as all honors classes, an AP class and 3rd year spanish. I am cross country captain of my team and I made it to state as a Junior in the 800. I sent in my times to the Air Force Academy coach and he told me he would keep talking to me over the summer. I have also done lots of community service with my church and tutoring kids at an elementary for a year. Out of all the colleges the Air Force Academy is my top college right now and I really want to go to become a pilot and go into civil engineering. can you please tell me if I have a chance at making it to the Academy, and what other things do I need to do?

Yes it is possible. You have some work to do with the SAT scores and your GPA should be paid some attention. Pay attention and you will get some good advice to carry you on your way.

While extracurriculars are looked at, academics are by far the most important aspect of admissions. That being said, you still have a full year to improve your GPA and SAT. I took the SAT 3 times and improved my math by over 100 points. Maybe consider lightening your academic load a little and taking a few regular senior courses in order to lift your GPA. AP and Honors courses are given extra weighting but I think a 3.28 is too low. Just work your butt of this year, and show them how bad you want to be at the academy and Im sure it will all workout. As a side note, if you're a recruited athlete, sometimes your GPA can be a little lower (but not much). As far as other things you can do, I would say you're on track. Keep being involved in the community, and really step up as a leader in cross country; organize team dinners or extra practices etc. etc.
Good Luck!

It is also possible to make it into the Prep School. You would go there for a year and then do the Academy after that. I believe it is intended for those who were just a little low in the SAT and GPA area, then by the time they come to the Academy the Prep schoolers have the advantage.

nobillity is right- if you don't get an appointment to the Academy, you may get into the prep school, and they do have an advantage over those that get in directly to the academy. so get your GPA and SAT scores up! you may want to take the ACT. keep involved with your ECs, and you're good to go

Also, if you are a recruited athlete, that can help a lot with getting you into the prep school if your GPA is still a little low
