so its still summer and obviously i cant schedule to meet with my teacher, and when school starts I know shell be swamped with questions...so i plan to email her this:
Hey Mrs. XXX, this is Jenny from your AP Chemistry class last year... I would ask you this in person but since its summer still, I was wondering if you would be comfortable with/consider writing me a recommendation letter? I know it's a bit early, but I didn't want to suddenly spring it on you during the school year when things get busy. If you like I can stop by when school starts and discuss it with you, but I understand completely if you do not want to. :)
Thanks for your time!
-Jenny

i am trying to explain to her that I can meet up with her formally as well-this email simply being a preliminary ask lol.do i come off tacky or rude? should i just ask when school starts though I know it will be hectic (and also i need one by Nov 1 for the ED deadline)

I emailed a teacher for a letter over the summer. It worked perfectly well. Just explain your circumstance, be very humble about it, and apologize for not being able to ask her in person. You should be fine.

I would send the email, but also include that you have a Nov. 1 deadline, and that you are asking by email as a courtesy, to allow her plenty of time. How long until school starts? You might not really be giving much of a head start, particularly if she will be involved in trainings and other activities that often happen the week before school opens. And at some schools the teachers don’t have read their school email over the summer. Too late now, but current rising Juniors should remember this, and consider asking at the end of Junor year, rather than waiting until school starts, particularly if you start after labor day.

Yeah, that’s true…but I felt a bit awkward to ask her earlier. I probably should’ve. The good thing is that I asked my English teacher on the last day of school, so that’s at least one down for sure.
