Hi! I am a rising junior. Freshman year, I was really bad at geometry and ended up with a C. Unfortunately, studying so much for geometry, I didn’t spend as much time as I could have on other subjects and ended up with four other B’s. Sophomore year was a lot better. I only had two B’s. My current weighted cumulative GPA is a 3.82. AP’s at my school aren’t offered until junior year, so I signed up for three next year: AP US History, AP Bio, and AP Lang. I have yet to take the SAT or the ACT. My extracurriculars include student council, cross country (one season, state champion, I don’t know if that helps) and track, Key Club board member, yearbook, and volunteer hours (ex. I recently went on a mission trip, and am active in my church). I was at Wake Forest the other day and absolutely fell in love with the atmosphere and the campus, but I know it’s tough to get into. UNC Chapel Hill is also a school I would love to go to, but I know it’s hard to get into as well. With my current stats, can anyone tell me how my chances look at getting into either of these schools? In addition, what will I have to do in order to be competitive for them my last two years of high school (e.i., grades, community service, SAT scores, the application in general)? Thank you so much!
Do you live in North Carolina?
SAT: Aim for as high as possible, but for UNC, generally a 2200-225 is good enough.
Yes, I live in North Carolina! How does my GPA look?
For in-state, I think your GPA is fine. Aim for a 2000+ SAT or 30+ ACT and I think you’ll be solid if you keep up your ECs and write nice essays.
