Is it stupid to turn down Harvard for Oxford?

PS - seconding @collegemom3717 advice about the vacs. My son has spent a significant amount of time during his Christmas/Easter vacs preparing for collections. Working on an internship for the long vac.

@HazeGrey Oh wow! that is so cool  What college is he at? But doesn’t that mean I will still have to decide before applying to US schools/ knowing if i were able to get into grad school in the US?

@DannyDan Since the Harvard reply deadline already passed, may I ask what your final decision was?

Trust me, by third year you’ll KNOW whether you want to stay on or not.

@DannyDan he is at Worcester and loves it there. I think your assumption on timing of the masters decision is correct.

@HazeGrey I had my other interview at Worcester! It is really a nice college

@Erenew I decided Oxford, but a couple hours later I am already regretting it. Well no, I have actually no idea. If I had chosen Harvard I would be regretting that even more rn I guess… :frowning:

It’s normal to second guess your choice. But, my hunch is you will have Harvard as a grad school option. It’s time to get excited about Oxford! You are about to embark on a rare and highly coveted experience!

I think Happy4u is right! It’s said that when we hesitate, we already know our choice. Your gut feeling probably has Oxford as the choice right from the beginning, but it just needs enough reasons to convince your “conscious-self”… And reading your posts in this thread really does me think that Oxford is the right place for you.

I’ve been through a similar struggle the past few days, and the discussions here also really helped me a lot. (I’ll be reading at Balliol College. Should be quite close to Brasenose!) So… Truly happy for your choice and looking forward to meeting you there in the fall!

@Erenew omg nice ! What subject ? Would you maybe like to PM?

my friend was a Rhodes Scholar and studied at Balliol college…

the history and tradition at Oxford is simply on another level compared to young US universities.

I’ll be doing PPE. I would love to PM:P! But I haven’t met the 15 posts minimum to be able to do that yet… (really just set up an account to reply to this post haha)

awesome! So hurry up and write some posts  @Erenew

Congratulations!!!

Thanks everybody ! Looking forward to going to Oxford now and I really hope I will be able to get into Harvard again for grad school
