im a jr now and i suppose now is the correct time to ask whether or not i have a chance at getting in since i have some sat scores and all…

i appreciate ur time if ur reading this.

i’ll have a gpa a little over a 4.0 by my senior year. its a 3.9 right now, weighted

my first ever sat scores are: 630 reading, 680 writng, 530 math. im taking them over in june and am aiming for 700s for reading and writing and over 600 for math

great ecs

great recs

is this about right? u think i could get in? rd?

If you get your goal scores, it is probably a match school. With your current scores i would probably consider it a slight reach. That 4.0 will really help though

is it super hard to get in as out of state?>>

Your title asks if it is hard to get into BU as an out of state student. Boston University is a private school and there is no advantage whatsoever given to students from Massachusetts. There is not a difference in entrance criteria between instate and out of state applicants. AND there is no difference in cost either.

i think you guys misread the post. 3.9 WEIGHTED, aiming for 4.0. depending how many honors/ APs you take, that falls just around BUs average. id say its a reach

"i think you guys misread the post. 3.9 WEIGHTED, aiming for 4.0. depending how many honors/ APs you take, that falls just around BUs average"---- their average GPA is a 3.9? seems a bit high to me

@taffyluchia: 3.7 is not low. At all. I know a BU class of '09 Trustee scholar with a 3.7 GPA. Anything above a 3.2 UW is fair game. Trust me. As much as I hate chances threads, I'd say that the original poster has a chance of getting into CAS. More likely, BU would offer admisison to CGS. I'm basing this judgment on SAT scores alone. For BU, that is not a low GPA.

I'd say you're fine... I'm in and going with 1300 and around 3.8 slightly weighted, and I know people who have gotten in with less than that. I have a sneaking suspicion that Great ecs and your essay have a big pull at BU because I do a thousand and a half activities and the other kids I know that got in are mediocre (I think) students but very good writers.

My theory is that BU is a very good school that can afford to be a little less selective than other schools of comparable quality because it has many spots to fill. Admissions can afford to take risks. In short (sorta got on a tangent there), I dont think you have much to worry about.

thanks for all ur posts guys. it helps a lot.

as for more info about me i suppose...

i think one of my strengths on my transcript is that i have added more and more weighted/honors/ap courses over the years. my counselor can testify to this; shes been there with me as ive rallied to get into harder classes. ive struggled to get a's in weighted courses, but i suppose its the challenge that counts as well as the effort. as for ecs, im very involved with volunteering at my hospital and i am the managing editor for newspaper next year. i can def get an awesome rec from my newspaper advisor. ive also started a new art club and received a student grant from the school district for $600 for the club. i feel like im a pretty good candidate...

and anyone wanna tell me how hard it'll be to get my sat scores up? ive got about 3 weeks until my tests come up andi m planningon studying every single day...will that help?
