Is it to late to apply for UChicago EDII Finacial Aid?

I was recently accepted EDII to UChicago and I had originally not asked for financial aid. However, now that I’ve actually been accepted, my family is worried about the cost. I was able to add UChicago to my Fafsa, but I cannot find any of the forms for UChicago Finacial aid, that should be on my UChicago account. Can I not find them because it is too late to apply for Financial Aid?

The deadline was Jan 15, https://financialaid.uchicago.edu/undergraduateapply-aid/2019-20-aid-application-guidelines

It’s probably a long shot, but you can call the fin aid office tomorrow and ask if it’s too late to submit the fin aid worksheet and/or CSS Profile.

They should be coming out with FA estimates for the ED2’s very soon, so that everyone who applied for FA will have a chance to review before committing. That’s why they wanted all materials in by 1/15. Definitely call, as @Mwfan1921 is suggesting, but understand that you may not get an estimate in time for the 3/6 commitment date.

We applied for FA after my daughter was accepted ED.Their website says you can apply for FA at any time in the process, which the FA office confirmed when I contacted them. While there is a priority date to apply, you can do so at any time. If you call the FA office, they can put the process into motion. You will need to submit the FAFSA and either the UChicago FA worksheet (this form is not accessible to you until you ask to apply for FA) or the CSS profile. The UChicago worksheet is WAY easier to fill out if you haven’t already done the CSS. It took about two weeks to hear back from them.

^ They are up against a two week countdown to the commitment date already so would need to get those forms and supporting docs in ASAP.

Just as a rough estimate your parents are looking at paying 1/4 of their gross income with the rest coming from FA. Above $300K and you will get no FA. Below $60K and it should be a full ride. This can be especially painful for those in the $150-250K income range.

OP were you able to speak with someone in the fin aid office today?

Agree with @PepperJo. We also applied for FA after my daughter was accepted ED. We called the FA office and they linked the forms to my daughter’s portal. Once we submitted everything it took about 10 days or so for them to supply an answer.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I emailed the FA office and was able to submit all of the required documents and will be hearing by Monday 3/4. I just had a couple of questions about the estimates @CU123 made when we filled out the fafsa my parents adjusted gross income was 125,000 but our EFC was a 109,000$. Realistically is it possible to get financial aid? Many other schools I was accepted to earlier gave me scholarships but no need based financial aid.

UChicago doesn’t really go off the FAFSA. You might get on the NPC and see what that shows (use actual, not estimated numbers for a most accurate assessment). Someone a few days ago posted that their award was similar to their NPC estimate.

EFC over 4 years? Otherwise it isn’t making sense. With an AGI of $125k. I would expect an EFC (for schools that meet full financial need) to be around $30k per year with adjustments (other kids in college, etc.). With those numbers I would expect a $30k/$45k split with UChicago picking up the larger split ($45k).

Apparently it’s because of real estate assests. My dad is a landlord so we own several houses he rents out.

@stressedsophmore1109 were you able to get a decision by 3/4? Were you happy with it? Ours turned out to be fairly close to the FAFSA EFC after all. I thought it was a fair award.

we ended up getting no financial aid.

Will you be able to attend UC without finaid? Do you have other acceptances and/or apps that you are awaiting decisions?

Yeah. My parents say they will figure it out so I’ve paid my enrollment deposit.

@stressedsophmore1109 - so good to hear!

Well good on your parents for making the sacrifice…

Yeah I mean my parents have always been very future oriented so they’ve been saving since I was born, so while they would have preferred I go to a cheaper school it’s not the end of the world. Does anyone have any advice on how to find outside scholarships?
