Is it too late for me to retake a subject test/take another subject test?

I took two subject tests (the only two I've ever taken) in October and I'm afraid I may have completely botched one of them, due to lack of preparation. I'm applying to some schools RD that require subject test scores.

I know some people can still send in SAT scores after the application deadline. Would it be okay for me to send in the the scores from that test date (one decent, one probably awful) with my application, then retake the subject test I did awful on (knowing I can do better) in December and send in that score?

What is the best way for me to approach this?

EDIT: I'm not sure which forum to put this in, sorry!

If you are talking about applying regular decision to some of the 29 colleges which actually require two subject test scores for admission and have Jan application deadlines, then taking Dec subject tests will be fine. Those all accept Dec test scores, the scores can arrive a little after the application deadline, and even if you apply now and submit two test scores, they will not be making a decision on whether you should be admitted until after mid-Jan.

For early decision, some schools will accept the November 2nd test date.

For regular decision, you still have the November 2nd and December 7th test date. Some schools will even accept the January 25th test but you will have to look it up on a case by case basis.
