Is it too late for me?

My overall Gpa in highschool is 3.05 which is not good at all. I never really had any motivation to go to college until this year so i am about to go into juinor year. I am taking apes, algebra 2 honors, and i am also taking intro to business and business law at my local community college. This summer i have gotten a job as an administrative assistant at a plastic machining company and i am starting community service for 8 hours every sunday. I am really trying to make up for my bad gpa i have calculated that i can get about a 3.6 unweighted if i get all A's this year and the first semester of senior year. i know saying getting all A's is easier said than done but i can do it i just slacked off and didnt do any of the readings or homeworks assigned last year. I really just want to know if i can still go to a good college preferably in california (where i live), and what other things i can do to increase my chances of going to a good college.
please do not sugar coat it just give me the truth

A 3.6 unweighted GPA would be fantastic. Is 3.05 also unweighted? Because if so, that’s really not that bad either. Although GPA is extremely important, other things can more than make up for not having perfect grades. If you get a great score on your SAT (2000+), almost every school in the country will at least consider you seriously. If you have other fantastic extra curriculars you can also get into some great schools (although you have to be REALLY REALLY good to actually get into a great school because of one skill, i.e., nationally ranked athlete, prolific actor or writer, etc.) Either way, it is definitely not too late for you to get into some really good schools; if you do well on your SATs and actually do get straight A’s, you have a chance at USC and UCLA in California. You could also consider UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC San Diego or San Diego State if you don’t get into either of those. It might be a little late to start working towards a school like Stanford, but there’s always a chance.

I disagree with the above post. Your grades are the most important aspect of your application to any school. Most schools will tell you that test scores cannot overcome a weak academic record, especially when studies have shown that high school grades are the best predictor of success in the first year of college. That being said, you’re going to really need to work as hard as you can to get your GPA up to a level that would make you competitive.

I don’t know how you could get up to a 3.6. If colleges count the first semester as a full year grade and calculate it as a:
(3.05+3.05+4.0+4.0)/4 = 3.525

And colleges wouldn’t put that much weight into only one semester.

But in terms of an extreme upward trend it is doable. I had a 3.3 freshman/sophomore year and had a 4.0 this year.

Best of luck to you and it is not too late to get into some second tier colleges providing you have good test scores and extra curriculars

im taking an ap and an honors so if i get all A’s i will have a 4.3

You said 3.6 unweighted…

3.05+3.05+4.16+4.16=3.6
i used 4.16 just incase i get a B so that would be a 3.6 unweighted by the end of this year. I might be calculating this incorrectly, if so please correct me.

i forgot to put the /4 before the = my bad

Unweighted means you can’t have anything above 4.0 and all of the classes are weighted the same so an A in a foundations class would do the same for your gpa as an A in an AP class … at least I think. Now I am second guessing myself
