is it too late to start my extracurricular activity in school in April (im currently a sophomore)? cuz i know that the competitive schools really care about the ex. activity. so far i didnt really join any clubs in my school.so,is it too late? (however,i do some extracurricular activities outside the school, like volunteering in the summer.playing musical instrument.) and i know that im going to join a sport team and do SOME community service in my school in my junior year. but im just so worried about my "emptiness" for my sophomore year. do the competitive schools really care about my sophomore year?

They definitely look at it, but if you become involved in something you're passionate about (take it to the limit and win some awards, maybe) you should be fine.

It's never too late to get involved in activities. Just find something you enjoy and go from there.

The adcoms are much more interested in whether you did something passionately and amazingly. I don't think "joining" a bunch of activies helps or hurts at all, though you still should have a few things on the app just so you don't stick out as being unsocial. Adcoms don't want bookworms.

You should become involved because it is the best way to approach life and learn about yourself... it's not about college apps.

it's not too late

Cliche but true: Be yourself. Find something you really enjoy and do it as much as time permits. An extremely important trait that colleges look for is authenticity. Doing an activity just for college apps will probably not help.

I agree with vicariousparent.

If you want to join some groups at school because you're passionate about them, you most definitely should because it's never too late. You could join in April of your senior year and it wouldn't be too late in terms of enjoying a new experience.

However, make sure you are joining activities that you ENJOY. Don't just join clubs or groups because you think it will make your aplications look better. Because colleges can usually tell the difference between I'm-investing-time-energy-and-effort-into-this-because-I-love-it and I'm-doing-this-because-I-want-to-look-good-for-colleges.

Hey I was just wondering but I am home schooled so how do I do extracurricular activitys they haven't told me anything so it is kind of hard to actually know so do any of you know what I can do?

ask a local high school if you could possibly attend their club meetings?

okay thanks that sounds good but the thing is I hate the hs in my area and they all suck so I don't know

Gosh, homeschoolers have a great opportunity in the area of ECs! Your mistake is in thinking of them as something you have to get from a school. ECs include anything you do apart from your school work. Playing an instrument, starting a business, volunteer work, writing, art, and a billion other things. You might want to do some googling about homeschoolers and college applications/admissions. I'm sure there will be a lot of good info out there.
