Just wondering, my D applied to only 3 colleges, because of the application fees, she was considering me because of our financial status.

But, is it too late to apply to other colleges?

Just wondering, my D applied to only 3 colleges, because of the application fees, she was considering me because of our financial status.

But, is it too late to apply to other colleges?

No, it is not too late.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling publishes a list every year of colleges that have not filled up their admissions classes and which are looking for additional applicants. I’m not sure when the list is published but you might be able to find last year’s list on its web page. See Home

I’m pretty sure there’s a thread with a compiled list, but I can’t find it.

What kind of schools is your daughter interested in?

BillyMC -She applied to Brown, Syracuse and NYU. She wants to be an attorney, international law. She is ranked 3rd in her class of 88 students and 4.05 GPA.

Okee - Its just in case there is another chance for her to apply to other colleges. She got an email informing her to check her email on the 30th of this month, and a letter from Syracuse waiving her NCP form, but we haven’t heard anything from NYU.

Just don’t want her to loose any opportunity in applying to other colleges.
Thanks for your help. I will check that post you mention.

Given your daughter’s stats, she will still have lots of choices if her current three do not pan out. If I recall correctly, last year’s openings included about 280 colleges including some very good schools. For example, I think Emory might have been on the list.

She can look at this list right now:

I would be more concerned though, with financial status, to make sure that the schools you apply to will still give finaid/scholarships. Many times these late deadlines do not include this.

Since it looks like your D needs financial aid, there’s probably no point in applying to schools now that won’t meet need. Does she have a financial safety? NYU is notorious for giving lousy aid.

What is your EFC? What are her test scores?

Ilovemyblacklab makes a good point. Many schools that give merit scholarships have past deadlines for scholarships.

Thanks for all the information. My EFC=0.00 (I’m a divorced mother of 2 (one child being autistic), father is not around at all, financially nor physically. Thank God I am working, but like most of whats happening, my salary doesn’t meets our needs.

Since your EFC is 0, it won’t do any good to apply to just any schools that are still taking apps since most probably don’t give much aid.

Perhaps some people here can tell you which schools that give good aid are still taking apps.

what are your D’s test scores?

BTW…why was your D afraid of app costs? Didn’t she get app fee waivers for being EFC 0?

I’m guessing she didn’t know about the waiver. Her school adviser is not on top of things. She got 2,200 (something like that on her SATs test). She is a pretty good student, she participates in Honor Society, English Society, UNS (this is an organization is like the United Nations, debating and trying to resolve issues, just like the ONU).

Her teachers loves her because of her being so responsible, she bearly sleeps, because of all the extracurricular stuff she is in. I am very proud of her, eventhough of her school responsabilities, she helps me with her brother and around the house.

I am praying she gets accepted in the school of her choice and a good scholarship package.
Me being a Mom and worrying about these things… Oh well.

if your EFC is zero, that means they don’t expect you to contribute anything towards tuition, NO ???

theleakers - If your FAFSA EFC is zero, it means that you will qualify for the full Pell Grant, and subsidized Stafford Loans. It doesn’t mean that any college or university will give you one more cent of financial aid.

CMIRA003 - If she is a National Merit SemiFinalist, there are some universities that offer sizable aid packages. Have her read through http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html to see if any of them will work for her. Some may still be taking applications. Students like her often are good candidates for Questbridge [QuestBridge Home Page](http://www.questbridge.org/) It is almost certainly too late for her to take advantage of that program, but it would be a kindness if you could pass the information on to the school so that the next kid like her has a chance to apply.
