Is it true: the more Ivies you apply the least chances you have?

I applied to six and was admitted to five

My friend here at pton applied to all and got into all

Whoever said that is basing it off of complete bull s h i t

I guess you apply to 8 one could consider you had eight chances to win a fat envelope. Apply to 1 and you have 1 chance. If that is the statement I guess you could look at it that way.

there is someone saying that at a thread so I would like to know opinion

You are smart think for yourself. Let me see.....8 schools and one application versus 8 applications.

Ummmm, if you believe this is true, your chances at ivies is probably not great......

*are not great ;)

oh snap that sucka got served.
jk
that correction was so cc... totally unnecesary - just like this one i guess. :)

Guess my chance ain't looking to great neither!

hmm. why would you apply to an ivy other than HYP that sucks at your chosen major/ug?

I don't know if it gives you "least" chances or not, but it can't reflect well on you. Applying to many Ivies, especially those that are not similar--for example, Columbia, Cornell, and Penn--it shows that you don't actually care about the individual aspects of the school. You don't actually like Columbia because it's urban or Penn because of it's large student body or Cornell for its naturally beautiful rural setting. All you're interested in is prestige. I doubt that can reflect very well on you as a person, and probably makes the colleges less likely to accept you if they don't feel that you are truly interested in them for THEM, not what US News says about them.

^All of this is most likely me being too idealistic, btw. Take it with a grain of salt.

^But how do they know that you're applying to all of these schools? Sure it's on your FAFSA, but isn't the FAFSA handled by the financial aid department and has nothing to do with the admissions office?

And if the Ivies do indeed communicate about who they have admitted, how does this explain all of the students who are accepted at HY and P?

Well, whether or not the school cares about it (and you're quite right, Bananas, they probably don't even know), it makes you a tool in my eyes.

Contrary to popular opinion, it's a myth that the Ivies "talk" to each other about cross-applicants. They used to share lists in order to compare financial aid packages, but not anymore. You won't be penalized for applying to a lot of them, but it's generally not a good idea because other than prestige, many of the Ivies are very different, so you run the risk of applying to schools that won't be a good fit you.

I see what you mean!

Thanks for all the great feedback
