Is it true?

Wash U St. Louis is my NUMBER ONE choice and I really really hope I get in! (now if only they would accept me...)

But I was just wondering... I keep on hearing things--like that there is a lot of discrimination in St. Louis... Is it true? It's not unbearable or anything right?

I don't live there, but I'm sure it's no different than any other metro area in the US. St. Louis is a diverse place so I can't imagine that it's too discriminatory.

There is quite an obvious divide if you decide to cross the arch one day.

i live in saint louis. there's no more discrimination here than anywhere else i've lived (or visited, for that matter). it all depends on the people you interact with. hope this helps?

I come from a very discriminatory city, and personally think it's fine here. East St. Louis is bad, but there's really no reason why you need to be crossing over the river into Illinois.
Also, in general people tend to be freakishly nice in St. Louis- it shocks me at times.

The school itself is less racist than most other top colleges.

There is discrimination anywhere you go and it definitely exists in the St. Louis area. However, I believe you find very little on the Wash U campus and also the very little in the areas close to campus. Both the Danforth and the medical campuses are located near the most diverse, least discriminating areas in the metro region (University City, CWE, Maplewood, Clayton), and although you are bound to notice acts of discrimination and racism there occasionally as well, it is definitely nothing "unbearable". As others mentioned, there are areas of the metro area where racism and discrimination are more prevalent, but you can just stay away from those particular areas.

Thanks everyone :)
