Cornell takes the highest score from each sitting? I don't like that idea because all my scores are in the same vincinity.

well whether its fair or not its done because it yields a higher sat average for cornell which it turn increases its "prestige" factor

Damn it Holden, you beat me to it. I loved it when a Cornell admission counselor mentioned this policy in an information session, and concluded by saying (more or less) "At Cornell, We're always trying to help you, to look for reasons to admit you." Actually I wanted to yell and call her bluff. Any such policy invariably hurts someone, except Cornell of course as admission is a zero-sum game.

i loved catcher in the rye :)

best book of all-time....at least in my opinion....and yeah, ivies are always trying to inflate SAT scores, but don't worry, they view all your scores, and it's not like theres any kind of index

^ agreed. 10 char

disagree about them viewing all your scores.. the committee that reviews only sees a summary of your app. like when u check status of app it says highest math: highest cr: etc.. thats all they see too.

I think this is good because it is never luck if you score higher. It is hard work and concentration. These things are of a value.

For me its great, coz I got a highest aggregate of 2080, but if you take each individual section, it goes up to 2140 ...but then stats vary individually.

It is fair. Since they do it for everybody, the playing field is even. They are not actually HELPING you like they say you are. They are in fact helping themselves by incresaing their "average" SAT score. Many schools do this. If you think you will do better by focusing only on one section at a time, go ahead, but they're still going to see how you potentially sucked on the other one. My guess is that your scores are pretty close to as well as you would do only taking one section at a time. My scores were identical, but I'm not complaining...(then again they were pretty damn good)
