Is it wise to apply Early Action if you have a bad GPA?

Hello All.

I was just wondering, it is detrimental to apply early action if you're gpa is low from junior year? Or would it be better to just wait until regular decision to get an update on senior grades?

my stats are as follows

gpa - 3.45 unweighted
4.1 weighted
sat - 2120
sat II - 770 USH
760 World
660 Lit

I'm thinking of applying Early Action to UNC and UVA. Would it be wise for me to do so?

Btw, I recieved a D in algebra III honors during my junior year, which is why this is a most precarious choice for me  so please take that into account

Are you in state for either?

Sent from my iPhone using CC

nope. I live in South Carolina.

No, you should get an amazing gpa during the first semester of your senior year. That will dramatically increase your chances of getting into those schools.

Are you from… twccenter? I recognize you…

But, you should try to boost your GPA with the leftover time you have in Senior Year.

nothingto… my S is also in this position. Actuall almost the same GPA as you, only a bit higher test scores. I was told by his GC at a top private prep that he can send in his first quarter grades for EA and ED. This will hopefully help a little. He has one ED school and 5 EA schools. Most of the EA schools are safeties and his GPA will be fine, but the ED school is a real reach. I got the opinion that applying ED still outweighs the lower GPA.

But if your semester ends late January, this means that RD will take the 1st semester courses and grades into account- can’t EA just defer you to RD and wait for the grades?

5boys, that is interesting that you can send 1Q grades. I didn’t know you could formally do that for EA/ED

@ tarnation : would that help me more than a boost from EA then?
@ nothingto: alright that’s what i might do then. Oh and what’s your name on twcenter? and yeah i’m the same guy :stuck_out_tongue:
@ 5boys: What schools is your son applying EA to??
@Seahawks: if you’re grades are not in the ballpark, chances are you can still get straight out rejected from EA. So that’s why I’m sort of worried.

bumpppppppp

No you have bad stats for Early action.

Hmmmmm…Gotcha. Anyone else want to lend assistance :/
