@anxioustransfer1 It’s up to you at the end of the day, but I know you will succeed regardless of what you choose to do. Just keep your head up, friend!! You’re going to end up wherever you want to. Just keep absolutely killing it with your grades and you will not only feel a great sense of accomplishment, but doors leading to places other than Rutgers University will open up!
Update: the appeal letter and the unofficial transcript have been faxed and the official transcript has been sent by my CC. I had a dream about getting in last night and it felt so real smh. Now I’m waiting. I don’t expect to get in but i tried. Will let you guys know if anything happens. I really hope these straight A’s are compelling enough for a reconsideration
Update: portal has been updated today. The transcript has been received but the status hasn’t changed. I’m so afraid. I feel a rush of butterflies throughout my entire body. I really hope they change their minds because I really worked my butt off. This semester has to count for something. I’m just gonna expect disappointment because nothing ever goes my way. Seeing the date change just scared me so much.
Update: reconsideration was denied. That was quick. What does this school hate so much about me?
I’m so sorry. Can I be honest? I don’t think they hate you at all. They are a huge school that can only accept so many people, so they have to choose people based on who poses the lowest risk. Based on your post history and what it says on their website, they need to see 2-3 good full-time semesters. I don’t think you fulfilled that yet to be considered for the spring semester, but I do think they will accept you for fall, provided you keep up the good work. I hope you won’t take this so hard because I truly think they just want to see how you do during the semesters they asked for. You have been doing so well in your studies and there’s no way they can ignore your growth, so be proud of that! I know you will be accepted for fall so keep fighting for your spot!
I’m sorry to hear. I agree @Allrightk. I’m still waiting on this semester’s grades, and I’m taking a winter online class to give myself another grade boost, and then I will reapply for the fall. It’s great you did well, and they will accept you if you raise your GPA even more and show them that you will consistently be doing well in the future and the grades in the past were the past. I know it’s hard to wait even more to get in, but it shows a lot about who you are as a person to get knocked down and keep going until you reach success.
@Allrightk @anxioustransfer1 I thank you both for the kind words. I busted my butt off, earned a 4.0, and really did my best. It still wasn’t enough for them. At this point I have no idea what will be. I can, with 99.99% confidence, say that it’s not worth it to try anymore and that this whole thing has become exhausted. I can honestly never win with school and it simply not worth it anymore to me. Requesting a semester roll over for the fall application cycle is probably going to result in another rejection and I no longer have the energy for that.
I understand that you must feel frustrated. I certainly would feel that way too if I were in your shoes. I’ll just give you my take as an outside observer who can view your situation in absence of the emotions you must feel. I think you’ll find that in time, when your frustrations dissipate, you can think about it. Rutgers gets a lot of applicants, so unfortunately, they have to be selective because they can’t accept everyone who wants to get in right away, and that’s why they follow a policy in which they consider some students after 2-3 full-time semesters. It may seem like you have been denied many times pointlessly, but really, you hadn’t met their pre-reqs to be considered again. As @anxioustransfer1 said, you have now shown consistency in your studies. As a result they will be more likely to accept you now that you have fulfilled their requirements. I encourage you to give it one more shot because I truly think you will get in for fall since you have far exceeded their pre-reqs now. But if not, Rutgers doesn’t deserve you, and you’ll totally find a better school that is more accepting of reinvention and growth. The best part about that is you’ll be grateful (eventually) it turned out that way because you will have found a school more in tune with you as a learner and that benefits your future growth and career. I encourage you to try one more time though. Many people try 3, 4, or 5 times before getting into their dream (fill in the blank). Good luck in whatever you decide!
@Allrightk Thank you for taking the time to write that down. With that being said, my frustration has dissipated and I still don’t think it’s worth it anymore. I want to go to graduate school and if I keep applying to Rutgers hoping that I’ll get in, it’s not going to work out for me. I have spent to much time, energy, and thought on this school and it’s draining. By keeping the idea of attending Rutgers at the back of my mind, I’m limiting myself. I’m thinking in the context of pursuing long term opportunities that would work out and in conjunction with me being a full time student there. I have applied so many times, I honestly don’t even remember how many times, and that’s not really a good sign. Other OOS flag ships and schools that are ranked in the top 30-40 in USNWR have accepted me, yet Rutgers hasn’t. I think it just isn’t meant for me if other schools of that caliber are admitting me. I honestly don’t know how I’m getting into them and not Rutgers. But I’m going to take that for what it’s worth. If they haven’t taken me at this point, I don’t think they ever will. I would be doing myself a great disservice if I continued with this pursuit. Waiting another semester for a school to finally deem me competent, despite going through what I’ve gone through and earning grades like these at the same time, is essentially the equivalent of putting my education on hold. It’s not worth doing that for Rutgers, especially if other schools have decided to give me a chance and clearly have a more holistic admissions process.
I understand you, It’s hard to accept it and move on, but thats a good way to let it not hold you back and keep going. I really hope when I apply for fall 2019, they accept me, seeing my much improved grades, and upward trend, and seeing that my first year was just a mistake and wasn’t the real me.
It’s a big school, and I do worry about me getting denied again, but i really hope they trust that my improvement is here to stay.
@anxioustransfer1 I think you’ll be fine. Back when my admission was rescinded, the admissions officer who I had a meeting with told me that the general rule of thumb to redeem oneself is at least 2 full time semesters (12 credits) of classes with A’s and B’s. She said that as long as the classes aren’t remedial, or seem to be transferrable/ of the appropriate level, you should be fine. If your grades this semester were really good, they will either simply accept you for fall 2019 or request your spring 2019 grades.
I have a weird update. After doing some more thinking, I decided to just roll over my application for fall 2019 admission. Even though it’s very crushing and it feels like I’m surrendering what little dignity I have left, they updated my application status. Potentially gaining admission to and subsequently attending Rutgers is probably the best thing for me to do. It has the greatest value in a school relative to other NJ ones. It’s also very close to me and has graduate programs that will aid me in accomplishing my career goals. I feel like a loser, but this is an incidence in which pride would lead to self destruction.
I have decided to go back to pursuing science, with the new work ethic I’ve developed as a poli sci major this semester. I am confident in my ability to get straight A’s again because I’ve actually done it before. I’m taking one math, one science, and a couple more classes that will transfer to Rutgers for sure this semester at my CC.
Exactly a year ago from today when I rolled my application over to fall 2018, after having my spring admission rescinded, I was automatically rejected, with that “not admitted” status flashing across my phone screen. After today’s update, all of the schools say “in process”. This doesn’t mean I’m automatically in. My fall application is in super early hahaha; I’m hoping that this means I’ll hear back super soon. I want to finally move on with my life. Maybe they may give me a chance because my fall semester was not too shabby. With all of this being said, while I’m very keen on life and what it holds, I don’t expect anything from Rutgers.
Will update you all if anything changes of course
@rutgerstransfer1998 Good luck! I will soon be doing the same, i will go online and roll over my application for the fall.
Update: I GOT IN FOR FALL 2019!!! THEY JUST UPDATED MY PORTAL! I AM COMPLETE SHOCK AND DISBELIEF RIGHT NOW!!
@rutgerstransfer1998 I’m so happy to hear that!!! Congrats!!! Hard work, and unwillingness to give up paying off.
I will be submitting my application for semester change soon. I assume I’d be able to fill that out, and then send them my updated transcript later on in the month? I’d like to wait until my grades from the winter online class come out so my GPA can be higher.
Late to the party, but I’m soo happy for you!! I had a hunch you’d get in this time around. Glad you tried anyway despite everything. I wish you the best in the fall!
Good luck @anxioustransfer1 I’m rooting for you too!!
An update for me, I got into NJIT this semester. I finally got registered in all my classes. Now I need a roommate, so I can stop couchsurfing lol
Speaking of which, if any of you are looking for a roommate near summer or end of, let me know. I’m looking to commute, so I don’t mind living in New Brunswick. And if you know anyone looking for a roommate now, please let me know! Thanks!
@Allrightk Thanks!!
My application just got updated today that they have everything and it’s being reviewed. Fingers are crossed.
And I’ll make sure to let you know if myself or if I stumble upon someone wanting a roommate.
I’ll keep you updated on what happens
