I recently took the ACT for the first time without studying and got a 30 overall with a 36 math subscore. Because I want to go to engineering school, getting a 36 in math is pretty big, however my other scores were not up to my standards and can be easily improved with a little preparation.

Should I retake the ACT and risk losing my 36 in math in order to gain a couple of points overall?

FYI, I am a white female with great ECs, decent GPA, looking into engineering schools such as UMich, Purdue, Illinois at UC, Rose Hulman, Michigan Tech, Michigan State, etc.

I would say Yes - take it again! My D always has the highest score in English which is very easy for her.....but each time her math & science scores have gone up. We are waiting for the early scores to be posted on Wednesday to see her latest results. Good luck!!

Don't forget that a good number of schools superscore (i.e., take the highest of each category from among all your tests and make a new "composite"), so it may not matter at all if your score drops a little.
