I really love the school but could never afford it if I don’t get their full tuition scholarships. Should I still apply?
Apply and see how much financial aid or merit scholarship they give you. If you get accepted but they don’t give you enough money, then don’t go. If you do get accepted and they give you enough, mazel tov.
I’m an incoming freshman at WashU. At this point last year, I was in the exact same place as you. WashU was my number one, but financially, it wasn’t in the cards for me. I was only eligible for merit scholarships.
Still, I applied, and I applied early (think early October). This left me plenty of time to craft and perfect my scholarship essays. I ended up getting the Langsdorf scholarship (full tuition engineering) even though I honestly thought I had no shot.
Go for it, please. Someone has to get those scholarships; why not you? Give your dreams a chance.
This student’s scores aren’t high enough (ACT 31). Getting the awards isn’t random. They’re given to highly desirable students (very high stats and URMs)
Yes but he/she said they just recently retook the ACT and may earn a much better score. They have a perfect GPA and experience in engineering outside of the classroom (which is very important). To me the major weak spot is test scores, which are improvable.
@FRCMandy, you’re going into BME, right? WashU is great for that. If you are an URM, I would encourage you to apply for the Ervin and Rodriguez scholarships. Ask your counselor to nominate you for the Danforth (although be warned: there are 7 essays for that one). I do know that if you want the Langsdorf, you should have stellar test scores. I believe at least half of us Langsdorfs invited to Scholars weekend had perfect ACTs.
