Hello! I am a junior and got a 2220 on the SAT (790 W, 720 R, 710 M) and have a 4.0 unweighted/4.5 weighted
I tried the ACT, but it honestly wasn’t working out for me
I am planning to apply to some Ivies/upper tier colleges, but I’m not so sure if the colleges look at the math and reading sections more (since I did better in writing, it would hurt me if colleges looked at only reading and math)…
Is it worth taking the new SAT to improve my chances (assuming my extracurriculars are up to par)?
The SAT score was from one sitting if that makes a difference at all
That is a pretty good score, and you probably don’t NEED to re-take the test if you have solid grades and extracurriculars. I scored a 2280 - 800 in writing and 740 each in CR and Math - and was still accepted to schools such as Cornell, Northwestern, Duke, etc.
I’d say if you really think you can do 40 points better in each section, you can, but it doesn’t seem entirely necessary.
You’re probably fine, but it couldn’t hurt, since you would use the best score. Your numbers are well balanced, with all of them over 700, which is something they like to see.
My kid took it a second time as a senior, and it really paid off for her.
Colleges will not superstore across new and old SAT so if you take the new format, its score will stand alone. If you take new format more than once, schools will superscore those multiple sittings of new exam.
I would take some practice exams to see how you do. There are four in circulation. W was the easiest section to realize a quick improvement in score. CR & M can be more of an uphill battle once your scores are over 700.
Check to see if the colleges you are considering require reporting all testing history.
