Is it worth transfering after two years?

I'm very confused about whether I should transfer out of my school into one of my so called "dream schools."
At first I thought I should just stay and do very well and get into a good graduate program and since some of my credits won't transfer and I really want to graduate in four years perhaps even with a double major.

Is it worth transferring to a better school after two years? Since I only have two years left. Or stay and try to go for my MBA at a better school.

I go to Pace University in New York City. The only positive with this school is its location being a few blocks from Wall Street and being there are many recruiters from there at Pace. Otherwise, tuition is really high and I question whether if its worth it.

I'm going to be going into my second year this coming fall.

Here are some of my stats:

Major: Finance
GPA: 3.35 - Hoping I can get it over 3.5 after the fall semester.
Credits: 33
HS GPA: 83 - Average for my senior year is about a 89 if that helps.
SAT: 440V 640M 460W
SAT II: 650 Math I, 580 Math II

Other notes: I work at two jobs. One of them being, working for a graduate department at Pace. I'm also going to be the treasurer for a society club at Pace.

I really want to go to top business schools like UVA, MIT, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, UMich, UNC, and Emory but probably don't have a chance at any of them. What are some reasonable schools worth transferring to?

Thanks!

With your GPA and SATs, it is unlikely at best that you stand a chance at top business schools. If you are satisfied with Pace and merely want an increase in prestige, I would advise against transferring, as you would stand to break many of the connections you have made thus far.

For schools like those you've mentioned, your stats are most certainly inadequate. So, while you may have good reason to transfer (which your post doesn't speak to all that well), you'd need to aim at different schools.

Sound advice guys!

Anyway. It's hard to say, as your SAT's are dragging you down. Have you considered retaking them?I know your in college, but it might be worth the shot. I would consider Baylor, Penn State, GW, Madison, UConn, Syracuse, and Lehigh. They might not be what you want, but they are a step in the right direction. To even have a shot though you would have to pull up your Critical Reading score, or have a really good reason for not being able to take standardized tests.

Some schools like JHU do not look at SAT scores. After 2 years, your college GPA and essay will likely be the biggest deciding factor in an acceptance. I would say try your best in your second year, receive straight As and you might just have a chance UNC (state residency status does not matter if you are a transfer student). I believe UNC's transfer acceptance rate is always around 33% - 40% (give or take) and if you have great recommendations, a stellar set of extracurriculars, a spectacular essay and a decent GPA - you could most likely be a Tar Heel in your Junior year.

Talking of which blackmambakatana there are quite a few LAC's that are SAT optional. I don't know if that applies to their transfer policy as well though, but I should think it does. I don't know if LAC's are the OP's thing though.

Thanks a lot guys for your replies! They were very helpful.

Right now I am leaning towards just staying here at Pace. I will apply to some of the schools you guys have mentioned like UNC and Lehigh and perhaps a few others.
I really wanted to go to Penn State but they don't allow transfers into their Smeal school if you have more then 30 credits, right?

I don't think I will be taking the SATs again. My SATs are very low, I was never a really go test taker. My GPA was also killed by my low average in Science classes otherwise my HS GPA would have been much higher.

Anyways, I'm just going to try and get all A's and get my GPA over 3.6-3.7. I was hoping they wouldn't look that hard at my HS stuff since I'm transferring out after my second year.
Feel free to add more thoughts and throw out more schools that fits me.

Thanks a lot!

if u were in CA you'd have a great shot at most of the UC's
dunno about OOS

You're right...I think if it's more than two or three semesters. It's a shame because I believe they overlook SAT.

No matter what college(s) you end up applying to, just ensure that there's an upward trend in your grades since high school.

Bonne chance!

pace univ is a decent school though,,
get highest possible gpa for your second year.
dont do sat again. do alot of ECs.
and give a shot to those univs..

Thanks again for your replies!

Just got a simple question:

What do you think is better?

Staying at Pace and getting a BBA in Finance and Information Systems.
Or
Transfer to a top business school like the ones mentioned above and getting just a Finance degree. Since not all my credits will transfer and getting both at another schools will be hard.
