Is Johns Hopkins in the cards for me?

I'm currently an IB Junior at a public high school that received a grade of an 'A' by the U.S. Department of Education.
Not to mention, I'm number one in my class.
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted: 4.587
Schedule: IB Spanish HL, IB Photography, IB Pre-Calculous, IB Biology 2, AP Language Composition, IB American History
I'm Hispanic-mother from El Salvador
SAT: 2080

Last year, I started my own charity organization with my local Catholic church called "Rescue Me", bringing clothing to the 47% of poverty in El Salvador. We bring articles of clothing in a container along with my city, so far we have 550 articles of clothing and 130 shoes!

I am doing research with a local university and its undergraduates in the department of biochemistry, working with riboswitches in an attempt to try to make medicines that your body isn't immune to, like anti-biotics

Last year, I went to Johns Hopkins and took a hospital class, as I am very interested in becoming a doctor and have a recommendation letter from its top professor.

I am vice president of Spanish National Honor Society, a member of NHS and Art National Honor Society, as well as on the Varsity Swim Team

How does my resume look???

Amazing!

I’m a pre-med student at a local state college with dreams of going to Johns Hopkins. I think it’s amazing what you have already done, and I’m sure Hopkins will agree.

Keep up that GPA as well as you can. Here are a couple of tips for college:

I’m not sure if you’re looking at Hopkins for your undergrad degree, but if you want to attend their medical school, definitely try to go to their university to get your BS (or shoot for the accelerated program - you can start med school without finishing your bachelor’s!)

Keep up the volunteering - they love that.

Start playing Lacrosse! (just kidding)

Be sure to mark “Hispanic” on your application to JHU. Schools need minorities, so it is certainly to your benefit.

Your transcript is incredible, I’m sure you will be at the top of their acceptance list. If you can possibly squeeze in another extra-curricular activity in the meantime though without hurting you awesome grades, give it a shot. Try for physician-shadowing or a part-time (very part-time) job in a pharmacy or hospital, or even just hospital volunteering (just a few hours a week), that will give you a good boost because they want to see you in the health field.

That charity is a gold star on your transcript; you are helping people in a unique way - admissions LOVES that.

If I were on the admissions staff, I would be begging you to come to JHU! So keep it up and start applying to schools ASAP!

And by the way, I bet Harvard or Penn State would love to have you. Apply to several and make sure they are offering you GREAT scholarships.

Best Wishes & God Bless!
