I’ve heard really great things about Kelley, I live in Illinois so I’d be forking over a ton of money for OOS tuition. What is your opinion on Kelley? I’m also looking at Purdue, OSU, and U of I for business schools.
I have a 3.84/4.0 weighted GPA and a 30 ACT, that is Direct Admissions status right?
Based on the other schools you are considering, Kelley is far and away the best choice for a B-School. Rankings alone would tell you that much.
Screw of I was a non-starter for me… #1 party school, B-school falling in rankings, too expensive for in-state.
OSU is over-crowded and completely focused on one thing - football. Their B-school is a joke compared to Miami of Ohio. Miami is where Ohio people go for B-school, not OSU.
Purdue is a good choice for Engineering or CS, but gets few points for business.
I faced a similar choice last year and absolutely made the right call coming to Kelley even with the crazy high price for Illinois folks. This place rocks and the Kelley folks are serious about preparing you for life in the corporate world. You can believe the placement stats if you are serious as all the seniors I knew last year had good offers.
Take that ACT one more time and possibly boost your scholarship chances. IU is cheap with scholarship money given all the OOS folks coming to Kelley, so you should expect no more than 5-10k from them coming from Illinois. Illinois is the #1 state for IU OOS students and seems to make up half of Kelley though that’s just perception.
My family found a Powerpoint presentation where IU was more or less bragging internally about how they cut their scholarship grants by over 40% and still increased apps and enrollment yield. They realize that people will pay for a good school, and they’re right.
@IUBOOS Thanks for your quick response. Yeah, so far IU Kelley is my number one for a few reasons.
I visited the campus and toured Kelley, I fell in love with everything there, and it was in the dead of winter, so I know that winter won't be an issue. Granted I'm from Chicago and we have our share of nasty winters.
The amount of trees and green space, jesus christ. I think miami of ohio takes second in terms of awesome campuses. I was thoroughly surprised about how much green space miami has.
Kelley LLC sounds like a crazy awesome thing.
The Study Abroad program at Kelley sounds a lot better than a few of the other places I have visited so far.
I just worry that Kelley may not see me as a good enough candidate for DA! D: I have a 3.3 UW but a 3.84 Weighted. I’m really hoping thats not a deal breaker, them seeing the UW GPA!
I’m also taking the September ACT with a goal of a 31 or 32 composite.
Indiana is visiting my school in two weeks or so, I’ve already signed up to be a part of that session.
I just hope that my stats are high enough to get in! I know at least 3 kids at my school who are eyeing DA to Kelley, same as me. It sounds super competitive to get in. :l
If not, I’ll probably take another look at Farmer for a secondary.
As long as you maintain your GPA at 3.8 or above, you will definitely get DA to Kelley. From the Kelley website:
For fall 2016 admission, you will automatically be offered direct admission to the Bloomington Kelley School of Business if you have:
Been admitted to IU Bloomington and indicated one of Kelley’s business majors as your intended major.
Earned a composite ACT score of 30 or SAT total score of 1270 (we include only math and critical reading sections on SAT). The Kelley School of Business accepts superscores for both the ACT and SAT.
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale during your high school career. Indiana University accepts weighted GPAs (if provided on the high school transcript). Please note that all GPAs will be converted to a 4.0 scale.
You will only be offered direct admission if you have met all of these requirements. Direct admission is offered solely on these stated criteria. If you meet the criteria for direct admission any time between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016, you will be offered direct admission to Kelley.
Don’t worry about your UW GPA, IU looks at your Weighted as long as it’s on your HS transcript. But don’t let your GPA slip below 3.8 - the cutoff is strict! And raising your GPA and/or ACT/SAT will increase your chances for a larger scholarship.
I am the mom of an OOS Chicago-area 2013 Kelley DA. Her stats were a bit higher than yours, and I understand scholarship $$$ has gone down since 2013, but the scholarships she earned put IU OOS tuition in line with U of I in-state tuition.
My husband and I both went to U of I and I was in the business school. Granted, it was a <> years ago, but I think my daughter is getting a much better business school education at IU than I got at U of I. I understand why companies love recruiting from Kelley - students gain so much PRACTICAL knowledge, and they can hit the ground running at any job. My daughter was excited to use what she had learned from freshman and sophomore year classes at her internship this past summer, and already has two internship offers for next summer! This mom is very happy with Kelley! Oh, and it was absolutely gorgeous on campus last week for move-in.
