Is Law School worth it?

Im not sure if there had been a thread on this or not, if so, sorry. Ok, to the focus of the thread. As of recently I have stumbled and come across articles and different readings stating law school is "over-rated" and "not-worth-it" anymore. These articles focused the ridiculous costs of the programs (the law schools), and the ever growing salary of a lawyer is somewhat romanticized. However true these "facts" are is a question of concern. However, the articles shine a bright light on the not so hot truths of law school.

Ok first question, based off these "facts" and reality,is it really worth it to go to law school?
Everyone knows there is a surplus of lawyers. Thus competition in the area of law is keen and becoming incresingly difficult to land a "decent" career starting point.

Next, would you be better advised to take a different avenue in a career field that has promising future?

lastly, lets assume someone earns their J.D, but decided to venture into a different career path? Is the J.D marketable? What fields do you think best fit a lawyer besides law itself?

In most cases, it comes down to the individual, whether law is right or not, or anotehr career path is sustainable. Thus, lets try to not use this to answer question two*

Digest it and lets hear your take on " If Law School is Worth it?
