is legacy a big deal?

if my friend has parents who both went to cornell for grad school, but our stats are approx the same, how much higher of a chance does she have over me?

does anyone know the percentage increase in admissions for kids with legacy at cornell?

Two things:

First, graduate legacy is far less important than undergraduate legacy for a number of reasons.

Secondly, it obviously does help to be a legacy but the true benefits are probably impossible to isolate as legacy students often have more privileges and advantages than none-legacies making them tangibly better candidates without regards toward legacy-status. So, there is some boast, but it may be minimal.

In the end, your friend has a better shot but not by a huge degree.

Legacy at Cornell only applies if you apply ED.
