I am from Los Angeles and I was wondering if I attended LSU if there are a lot of cliques. Like do people hang out mostly with their friends from high school or do they open up their friendship circles?

Yes, a lot of in-staters don’t have much interest in expanding their circle of friends. If you can find a group you fit in, that would be the best way to meet people. My roommate’s social life came entirely from band. I never really found my niche here.

I am not sure that LSU is much different in this regard from other state universities that draw a significant proportion of their students from in-state for various reasons (e.g., Texas, Georgia). At such schools, there are bound to be some students who pretty much stick with the HS crowd but there are also bound to be many students who don’t.

S is a freshman at LSU and is from Texas, which also sends a lot of students there, but he has a pretty diverse social circle, geographically speaking. He has had no trouble finding a social niche.
