I know you can temporarily memorize 1000 words but is it realistic to say that you actually remember them throughout life, or do you just forget them after SAT prepping is over?

And does anyone know how accurate Sesame Words list is meaning do a lot of these words appear on the SAT?

Thanks

You will most likely forget them unless you review them for like, a couple months. I know that I've pretty much forgotten the words I learned for english class, but the one year we were required to have two tests on the same words about a month apart I remembered the words better/still remember most of them.

of course...lol...thats what i did in a week

If you make up some really weird and funny way to remember the word, you won't forget it.

You already know thousands. What's another thousand, eh?

you will absolutely remember these words the rest of your life
my dad had to study a bunch of words for his graduate admissions test and he is still able to remember some very obscure words even today

I don't really care after the tests, but I am sure some of them will stick.

Possible? Yes. Very difficult and time-consuming? Also yes. Just read a lot and you'll pick up words without feeling the effort nearly as much.

Read difficult materials while you are memorizing. You'll be surprised by how frequently those words come up. Well it is for me anyway.

I find Time magazine to be good. Some sports writers in yahoo has some fancy vocabulary as well (im in to sports).

yes. you can retain your memory by 1. thinking of some 'weird' way that relates directly to you or 2.read a LOT of newspapers, literary journals, mags.. and you'll see that a lot of the words appear.

I'm going to get on my soapbox and rant a little:

Why does it take a standardized test to force us to temporarily enhance our vocabulary? Shouldn't we, in the interest of clarity of expression and lucidity of thought, learn new and more exciting ways to express ourselves for that very purpose?

If I'm going to spend hours of my life memorizing words (I've never done this), I sure as hell want to retain them to better my english ability.

so do I so that's why I want to know if its even worth it to study so many. I only paired it with SAT prepping as a source of motivation to actually start learning new vocab

yes, it's very possible. And having a big vocabulary will help you even after the SAT.
