Is merit aid rare at Wake Forest?

My D is considering applying to Wake Forest. I think we had taken it off the list because of finances, but I was looking again, and I see what seems like conflicting info:
On the website it says, "Each year Wake Forest awards merit-based scholarships to less than 3% of its first year applicants." So that would make me think it is very difficult to get, but then on the COA page on the site, it says, "A significant number of students receive $5,000 or more in additional scholarships, which further reduce the net price."
Which would lead me to think that many students get some merit aid.

I think it may be a moot point now, because I also see that application had to be in by Dec 1 to be considered for merit, and an interview appears to be an important factor, but just in case...Is merit a real possibility outside of that 3% of students first noted? Can students who did not apply prior to Dec 1st, and did not interview, still be seriously considered for any merit aid?

Yes. While they claim to end consideration for merit aid on December 1st, they will still consider your daughter if they think she is a good candidate.

Most students recieve some merit aid. I do not know where on the website you saw that, but the financial aid Wake gives out is usually very good and helps students out immensely, in terms of both the merit and need based aid.
