Wake merit aid

Can anyone tell me about merit aid at Wake? I looked at the list on the website, and noticed several scholarships are typically awarded to students in the top 1% with >1500/1600 SAT's. Others don't list typical requirements, and I was wondering what kind of student receives merit aid.

Merit Aid is offered to less than 3% of applicants this past admission cycle, or about 250 applicants out of over 10,000 applications. Go on their meriot aid website for more details. Some have interviews, others are just awarded on your financial aid letter with no prior knowledge of eligibility.

When I asked the adcom about merit aid he said that when they read an app that ‘gives them goosebumps’ it goes into the pile to be considered for merit aid.

Haha, wow that’s a compliment for anyone who got some merit aid…

Here’s a tip – it’s about your ESSAY and INTERVIEW. Those will be the most important component to see if you should get some merit aid or not. Obviously, you need to be very competitive in terms of GPA/Test Scores, but what will differentiate you from the pack will be those two things, and any extra supplements you send in.

Daughter was a NMF, Girl Scout Gold Award, 2200+ SAT, talented dancer, multiple academic awards, etc. She thought she had a great interview; I thought she wrote a pretty good app for Wake. She got no merit aid. We were told that a good portion of it goes to NC residents (which we aren’t). There is little aid; and lots of stiff competition. Good luck to you.
