What are advantages and disadvantages of Middle college vs high school?</p>
<p>I don’t know what a Middle college program is. Maybe this is called by a different name in different states?</p>
<p>Middle College IS good if your student has potential to do VERY well, but isn’t being able to do so. Example: student can easily pass Calc. BC as a junior, but is currently in Pre-Calc.</p>
<p>If your son is being held back in terms of potential at his school, GO FOR IT. Benefits will greatly outweigh harms. If not, don’t even bother. The high school courses portion absolutely suck.</p>
<p>I would suggest you to look into College Now for senior year, and stay in HS for junior. I know many students that went through MC and didn’t like it, but LOVED College Now. </p>
<p>Middle College also varies for the school you will be going to. MC De Anza really sucks. Stay away from it. But MC San Jose City College and MC Mission are quite good. </p>
<p>The guidance counselors are quite grumpy though, so when you apply for colleges, I wouldn’t expect a glowing GC rec. Also, since the class sizes are so small, the GC rec would be expected to be better than it will be. However, teacher recs will generally be much better than they would be in HS. It really honestly depends on personal choice.</p>
